Well the main compromise to this is don't have people over late during the week. If you wanna see your mates, go out to a bar or whatever. You say you can still do things like watch movies and stuff, so it's not a massive issue surely?

I dont think a problem like that makes someone a whiny bitch. I am a light sleeper too and had to start using ear plugs do too being woken up by my roommate all the time, and it used to suck especially when I had to wake up early for work.
At least you're using ear plugs. Their seems to be a disparity between what a light sleeper really is (how you probably feel) and someone who is but refuses to deal with any steps to sleep comfortably.
I wouldn't even rule out the possibility of having paper thin walls. You say you can't hear your roommate whose room is adjacent to yours, but she is a woman. Women can be fucking assassins sometimes with their quiet, catlike reflexes and whatnot.

My roommates have agreed the only excusable noise is fucking, and the next day it's meet with a stiff apology. Everything else is not excusable after normal sleeping hours. Whether it's people talking, you can take that shit somewhere else, or noise from entertainment, you can get a pair of headphones yourself.
