I can't believe I forgot Garbage. Their early albums were VERY much of their era.
I thought of more time-period defining 90s tracks while trying to fall asleep last night, if I might indulge my mini-obsession once more, haha:
Robbie Williams - Millenium (Tongue-in-cheek irony mixed with earnestness and talk of the imminent Millenium? Baby, you got yourself a 90s stew goin')
The Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet With Butterfly Wings (The chorus perfectly sums up the direction hard rock had gone in by that point in time. Also, it was the lead single for one of the most influential albums of the decade)
Montell Jordan - This Is How We Do It (Not only does it have a sound you don't really hear much of in the 00s and beyond, but it was so wildly popular that I feel like it needs to be mentioned by default, like Macarena or Barbie Girl)
Will Smith - Gettin' Jiggy Wit It (Again, insanely popular, sounds strongly of its decade, and it's The Fresh Goddamn Prince. May be switched out for "Summertime", "Miami", or "Men In Black")
The Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You (*clapclapclapclap*)
Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta (I mean, just listen to it, haha. Imagine that song being nearly as popular if it came out today... ain't happening unless it featured Drake)
Vitamin C - Smile (Again, very self-explanatory)
OMC - How Bizarre (... Yeah.)
The Brian Setzer Orchestra - Jump Jive an' Wail (I almost forgot about the swing revival period! Again, if you're younger and reading this, swing music came back in a huge way near the end of the 90s, and I'm still not sure how or why. It was really fucking weird)
