I love the irony of a video about cameras that used no actual cameras in its production.

Nice. Some of the scenes looked more realistic than others, but it all was impressive.

Except for the photographer... which I guess adds another layer of irony.

I, I'm not gonna watch this, no I'm not, no I'm not, no I'm not.

I, I'm not gonna watch this, I'd rather shoot, rather shoot myself in the   head.

Because I, I'm not gonna watch this, no I'm not, no I'm not, no I'm not.

That is really good.  Now just to put animate object in it and my mind will be blown.

It's nice work from a radiosity and raytracing perspective.  Really excellent focal point effects too.  Texturing and procedural mapping were also pretty top notch.  Where it lost me was in variance of quality in the mesh work.  The exposing polaroids looked unrealistic, as did the roll of film, while the camera and the rest were excellent.  I'd say he wasn't entirely happy with the final render but it was too hard to fix due to extremely long render times.

All the trees were animated.

But obviously that's not the point, this is a piece about architectural composition with some impressive Vray, not a CG tech demo. The main reason it looks so realistic is the painstaking compositing of his light passes, and all the 'camera focuses', which distract from any minor imperfections.

Stunning. I was particularly impressed by the trees and that he wasn't afraid to include an animated human, though I would have liked a closer look at it.

It certainly doesn't look like CGI. It looks so real. Amazing.

Hopefully we will see such fidelity with humanoid models in rapid motion.

Would certainly make for some kickass action flicks.

I can agree.  I think Gilliam needs to work with this dood.  I'm sure the end result would be the most delayed movie of all time...

@captain_clayman: He probably used a render farm. But I'm sure he has a decent computer for test renders and whatnot.

Yeah. Everything except the cabin amongst the trees and the flying books looked amazing to me. There was still something about the whole thing, nothing I would be able to point out, that looked a little... off. That's not to say that it's not the best cgi I've ever seen... because it probably is. And holy crap the music was made by him as well.

Im amazed i watched the whole thing, halfway through i was thinking "This is hella artsy, and i hate artsy people, but this is kinda awesome." It's fantastic, and i want opinions.....

Would anyone else be really interested in a Pixar Movie or something with this kind of CGI? I mean, that level of realism could be great for a kid's movie that would also appeal to adults.

that level of realism could be great for

That level of realism as of yet is only really achievable with stationary objects / simple camera.
Almost everything living, moving or non-geometrical in this video was a pre-set composite element.

Incredible. If I wasn't told it was CGI I would have thought a lot of it was real life imagery. Usually I can't appreciate computer generated work as art but this is easily an exception.
