Star wars: Return of the Jedi Forest Gump 12 monkeys
Note: those probably aren't my 3 favorite movies, but they were the first 3 good movies that came into my head. I've got better things to do than spend all day thinking of every movie I've ever seen and deciding if its one of the best 3 movies I've ever seen.
huh? sunshine? come on now, the last quarter of that movie blew ass, it was amazing up untill it turned into a cheesy slasher film with a happy ending.

Pinbacker is eternally obsessed with God and God's Will. God's plan. He's not a "creationist" so much as he is a "destructionist" -- The eradication of human kind is the will of The Lord and Man has neither right nor place to challenge that will.
I had never heard of it when I started watching it on TV by chance, dIdn't even know what movie it was. Thought it was just some generic Disney stuff, at first. I was a bit positively surprised and impressed. Great film.

Yeah, happened on this movie years back on cartoon network. Had no idea who made it or when it was released but the instant Hogarth and The Iron Giant met up I knew it was my favorite movie.

That doesn't make it good. It took the film from a suspenseful drama into some default slasher flick. Also, did you know the actor who played Pinbacker, Mark Strong, is Archie in RocknRolla? You and anyone else who knows the IMDb will know, but i'm still kind of shocked.

A "default slasher flick" ignores the ideas of allegory, metaphor, and symbolism by definition. Clearly, this doesn't.
The film does spin abruptly towards the abstract, but the God vs Science metaphor is threaded deeply into the mythos of that final act. It's a riveting collision of the morality of the first acts and the deterministic philosophy of the opposing meta-forces.
Dude, The Matrix is your favorite film, so I'm expecting you to put a little effort into the analysis of the film. Sunshine was not a wide-release, and therefore, it wasn't a big-budget, macho, action/sci-fi flick (nor was it trying to be). Danny Boyle is not Eli Roth. He has something to say, even if he isn't willing to spell it out for the viewer.
A common criticism of Danny Boyle is that his films' final acts are awkward tangents that spiral away from the crux of the original plot. This is completely, utterly incorrect. The final act in a Boyle film has everything to do with the theme of the movie.
