I had no idea Black Magic Woman was a cover. Awesome! It's one of my all-time favorite songs.

Crossroads by Cream is, suffice to say, the correct answer, that is if you play an instrument and have a blues background.

That song is so much fucking fun to jam to, man. Also, Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley is great, as is All Along the Watchtower and Hurt. But, Crossroads. Just Crossroads.

I like it when bands cover something and try to make it their own, while still holding true to the original artists' intentions.  With that said:

"Just Got Paid" by Mastodon (originally by ZZ Top)

"Hallowed Be Thy Name" by Machine Head (originally by Iron Maiden)

"Head Like A Hole" by Still Remains (originally by Nine Inch Nails)

"The Badge" by Pantera (originally by Poison Idea)

"Children of the Grave" by White Zombie (originally by Black Sabbath)

"Take on Me" by Reel Big Fish (originally by A-ha)

"I Believe I Can Fly" by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (originally by R.Kelly)

"Plowed" by Evergreen Terrace (originally by Sponge)

Now, mind you...nothing beats the originals on these (except Pantera, that song just fucking WRECKS when they do it).  Nonetheless, these are all really awesome interpretations that the band did yet still held onto their own style with it.

I like A Perfect Circle's rendition of Imagine, and Gary Jules' rendition of Mad World.  Both original songs are great, though.

Probably my favorite cover.  Barely a cover, though.  Sammy basically made this his own.  [original version by Jerry Jeff Walker]

Most of the ones I can think of off the top of my head have already been stated:

The Man Who Sold the World - Nirvana
Live and Let Die - Guns N Roses

Those are the two that came to mind first for me as well. I also agree with Captain Insano, I think Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are good.

Also Matthew Good's cover of Moon Over Marin is better than the original by the Dead Kennedys in my opinion. If you're a Dead Kennedys fan you'll probably hate this version because it is so radically different from the original.

You freaking serious?  Even putting Tool on the same playing field as Led Zeppelin is a disgrace to music!
I think you need to listen to the original some more bro.

Final Fantasy - Peach, Plum, Pear.

To avoid confusion Final Fantasy is the name of Owen Pallet's solo project. He is more commonly known as a member of The Arcade Fire. He openly admits the his stage name is based on the video game, and is a huge fan...so dont hate.

He covers Peach, Plum, Pear at his live shows. The song was written and performed by Joanna Newsom. She is a harpist, and singer, who is VERY polarizing. People either love her (myself) or hate her...many others.

This is the original, from Joanna Newsom's debut full length The Milk-Eyed Mender.

Um...No. A lot of people find the cover A LOT better than the original. It isn't a disgrace to anyone or anything.
