What Book Are You Reading?
Its pretty good once you get past how its written read a page or two and you will know what i mean its pretty nerdy but hell i love LOTR
Keys to Infinity
Right now, I'm re-reading The Sound and The Fury by William Faulkner. I first read it in high school for a research paper and despite enjoying it, the ridiculous stream of consciousness section in Quentin's arc of the story really threw me off at the time. Now that I'm a bit more well read , I going back to try to make more sense of that section and the book as a whole. Also, I've picked up The Heart of Darkness to read.
Choke by Chuck Palahniuk
and at the same time for school Huckeberry Finn by Mark Twain
both genius books, imho
I'm still about 1/3 of the way through Jane Eyre (yup, that book)- I was supposed to read it for my English class last year (oops!), and my (female) roommate wants me to read it because she's in love with that book. It's not bad, dawg.
Um, I'm also planning to get into The Divine Comedy (gotta gear up for that Dante's Inferno game of course) and...Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn.
Await a blog that I'll post about my thoughts on The Twilight Saga. You'll love to read it, I can guarantee that.
" I thought it would be a good idea to try and read Joyce's Ulysses. Having read a couple of pages, I don't think I think so anymore. :D But I'll keep going for a little while. Maybe it'll grow on me. "ha i'm starting on that after a finish Suttree by Cormac McCrathy. Ulysses seems daunting though...
I'm savoring World War Z by Max Brooks. I don't want it to be over. After that I"ll probably start "On Writing" by Stephen King. If anybody wants to write at all for anything, I think you should read that book. (I've had at parts of it before, so I feel confident enough to recommend it).
"Dude.....really? I used to love those books, until i was reading lord...brock or something like that..and thats when i figured out that the exact same thing happens in every freakin book. Act 1 - Hero is found Act 2 - Hero stands against evil or goes on some journey Act 3 - Hero finds the sword, defeats the bad guys. The end. But if you enjoy it, have fun. I have alotta those books. I might mail them to yall lol
"
Reading book 8 of 9 in the legacy of the force series. I'm getting the 9th one this x-mas and I'm not sure what I'm going to read after that.
The last Republic Commando novel should be out by then and the 3rd Darth Bane novel so i will probably finish them. After that i honestly have no idea. I'm thinking of picking up Karen Traviss's first series since it has 4 or 5 novels in it, so it should last me awhile. Then again i may start into the Mass Effect novels. because if it wasn't for reading the first Darth Bane novel written by Drew Karpyshyn i would never have rediscovered the joy of reading and wouldn't have gotten a chance to read Karen Traviss stuff. So i kind of want to help support him by buying anything he writes, as so far i have not been disappointed. All in all i got enough books i want to read to do me for a year or two more, so I'm not worried about not having anything to read yet.
Just finished 'the Kite Runner' which was one of the best books I have ever read and I´m about 30 pages into Generation X by Douglas Coupland.
Also, @Venatio: The first Mass Effect book was pretty good, but Ascension is kinda garbage.

So far, liking it a lot. Shining good, not Shawshank good. But still awesome. "
Wow, I've read a lot of Stephen King but I've never heard of this one. The cover is awsome. Is it newer or something? The newest King novel I read was Cell, which I liked a lot. Not amazing, but quite an interesting take on zombies.
"@tranquilchaos said:its his newest book about 1000 pages i think? its supposed to be quite good i believe havent read it but i want to" @SoothsayerGB said:Wow, I've read a lot of Stephen King but I've never heard of this one. Nothing at the moment. Finished SuperFreakonomics a few days ago.
Probably going to start reading World War Z/Zombie Survival Guide again, or The Morningstar Strain: Plague Of The Dead + Thunder And Ashes. Can't wait for the third book, Survivors, to come out.
WWZ has my favorite types of zombies (Slow and shambling) and is one of my favorite books, but TMS is pretty dang good as well.
And if I read my Black Hawk Down book anymore, the pages will fall out.
Edit: Oh...holy shit. The author of The Morningstar Strain died. Fuck. Just looked it up on his forums. The book will still be published and such, but damn.
Well...that's a downer. He seemed like a cool guy.
Oh - I loved Taipan and Gaijin and whatnot. Read it in German as a kid. Planning on reading them in English someday though. Looking forward to it too." I just finished Shogun by James Clavell and picking up Tai-pan next. Had a blast, lot of east asian historical fiction delicious cake! "
Thanks for all the replies guys. Ordered my next batch of books right away.
-Rant by Chuck Palahniuk
-American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
-Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay
-Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
I think I'll be well entertained by these picks. Albeit I'm afraid they're all quite dark and disturbing. Anybody got a good tip for something more upbeat? Entertaining Non-Fiction perhaps?
Finished Steven King's Dark Tower series a week or two ago and I think I'm ready for something new now. Going to do Sun Tzu's Art of War & Lord of the Flies (which I was supposed to read years ago in HS but never did, just feel like it now).Finished up those two already, Lord of the Flies was fantastic. Now moving on to Don Quixote, which is great so far.
I am. Some of Its saintly characters provides a great counter to the dirtier characters in Crime and Punishment. It's a bit less of an engaging story than was C+P, but the psychological aspects of it are excellent, as they are in most of his books." @jukezypoo said:
You enjoying that? I was considering getting into it soon. "The Idiot by Dostoevsky
If you've read Dostoevsky before, I recommend it. If you haven't, I'd suggest starting with Crime and Punishment and Notes from the Underground first, since they're an easier way into Dostoevsky's style of writing. Also, I suggest the Pevar/Volkonsky translation for all of his works, since I feel like they capture the rhythm of the originals the best of any of the translations.
I am reading At the Gates of Darkness at the moment. It's not that great to be honest and Feists book haven't been for a while now. More and more with every book he has released since the Serpent War saga I wish he had of put Midkemia to bed but I am still fan enough to read every book as they come out.
Like Manatassi I need to read The Gathering Storm which I have bought but I want to re read the preceeding books in the series again to get everything fresh in my mind because its been a bit of a break since I read Wheel of Time stuff. But given how much free time I have that is going to take a while.
After that I was thinking of trying something new, maybe some sci-fi or horror or something I don't know. But thats going to be a ways down the track anyway so it doesn't matter.
