It grows on you
I didn't take a huge liking to Ghostbusters when first picking it up, kind of felt like a bit too frantic for my liking in an action game, but as you progress you start to realize some of the subtleties to the game that make it enjoyable. I'd say your enjoyment of this game is still going to be directly tied to how much of a Ghostbusters fan you are. Either way, here are my quick bullet points:
- All the mechanics behind trapping ghosts feel really solid, simple enough to pick up, but have enough complexity that it always feels rewarding.
- There is a nice simple upgrade system, and 4 types of energy blasts which forces you to mix things up and try to use the right weapon with the right enemy.
- Almost feels refreshing playing through a third person shooter where you aren't ducking behind cover for 80% of the combat.
- The graphics never really look "impressive" at any point.
- Story was relatively satisfying but would have preferred it actually involved the main characters more.
- Still think it would have made more sense to put you in the shoes of a different Ghostbuster on every level, rather than just being a new recruit.
