" @BeachThunder said:I think we need to start an internet revolution against this review score shit that is going on, if a game gets an 8.5 (or 85 of 100) it should be considered a rather good game... fuck you internet!" Aren't scores in the 80s supposed to be good :o "No you idiot, haven't you heard? If a game is lower then a 9.5 it's a fucking piece of shit. Therefore Gran Turismo 5 is a big flaming piece of shit. "
Gran Turismo 5
Game » consists of 9 releases. Released Nov 24, 2010
Gran Turismo 5 is the fifth edition in the long running racing game series by Polyphony Digital. The game sports over 1000 vehicles, damage modeling on race cars, a dedicated television channel, lots of races, 16 player online multiplayer, and active weather.
IGN's review is online
" 9.0 for graphics is generous. Jaggies and flickering shadows everywhere. 1080P mode is not even full screen (at the start you can scale it to fit). "
Erm, the 'scaling to fit' bit is finding out how your screen is setup, overscan wise so it doesn't draw things past what you can see. No to scale up the image!
Tellies still seem to still default to not showing the full 1080 to hide any mess sent with your TV pictures in the overscan area.
@OmegaPirate The install on my PS3 fat took around 35 or was it 38 minutes.
I don't get how the IGN reviewer can call out the game's driving pitfalls like the zombie A.I., but then in the closing comments call the game a 10/10 simulator wrapped in a 5/10 game. Seems like he's contradicting himself.
I don't want to say conspiracy, but they should've done what GameSpot did and hold off the review until next week. It took the hardcore fans on NeoGAF and GT-Planet, two full weeks to unlock level 20 and full damage for modeling and mechanical damage. Endurance races still weren't unlocked, F1 wasn't unlocked, and top-tier events weren't even unlocked at level 20.
The online just went up 20 hours ago too, and the review doesn't mention the browser mode at all.
I don't get how people are reviewing GT5 with just 2 days of review time when people who had the game since early this month have barely touched the end-game content.

Sounds like when reviewers rush MMO reviews without having played above, say, level 10.
Either way I hope you enjoy GT5, I know how much you've been looking forward to it man. And wth, your mailman shows up between 8am and 12pm?! I'm lucky if I get my mail before 3pm.
Just took the Gallardo out to rome...
(I fucking wish I could say that in real life...)
to test out a few things,
all these traction control things get in the way, it will help new players but it takes the fun out of racing on a knife edge
Damage...
The thing with damage, these cars aren't meant to be smashed into walls at 200 KM's per hour, and I think they designed it that way, the physics of smashing into a wall is best left to GRID, because of the rewind feature it's fucking cool, but if that's what you are into in a racing game, GT5 ain't for you, and I can tell you that from within two minutes of gameplay.
Anyone know why review copies weren't sent out earlier? The game was done, and if it really does get better later on (i have no idea if this is true) the surely they're shooting themselves in the foot by not making sure that reviewers had a good long time with the game before the reviews went up.

SONY! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? lol

I see that Gamespot are the only website out there who are waiting unti after the holidays to review it. So that means they either want to take their time or bite their tongue.
It seems to me that GT5 is just far too big for its own boots and it's the small things, which are going to bug a lot of people playing it. The lack of crash/damage, the bumper car sound effects, the unforgivable loading times, the track-to-track-to-track system, which is one sense keeps you on your toes yet in another can frustrate because you don't have time to learn them.....
This is the strange thing though.......Eurogamer pointed out the same faults as IGN but rounded off those points to a high score of 9. It's very confusing.
But to be 'that guy' - Forza 3 is better so fuck you all. Merry Christmas. :- )
While I think the fact that it scored less than the developer who is apparently shitting themselves over this game is hilarious...

The thing is, I've said this before, the main reason I would buy GT5 is because of the eye candy, and if it isn't the best looking thing there is, with standard cars looking ropey and jaggies and such, then I don't think I'm going to spend ~£300 on it.
Disclaimer: my copy of GT5 came in this morning and I'm currently stuck at work (boo!) so I haven't played it, so I'm not commenting on the game itself, just IGN's review.
Honestly, I'm amazed at this. I remember when GT4 and the original Forza released within just a couple of weeks of each other and fanboy angst was at an all-time high, people were watching IGN to see which game reviewed better. IGN, not wanting to get flamed for bias, copped out and gave both games an identical score of 9.5. The fact that IGN actually came out and gave the game a lower score than both Forza 2 (8.9 - which I guess could adjust to their new scale as either 8.5 or 9.0 depending on whether you think a game should be bumped up a level or not) and Forza 3 (9.4 - adjust whichever way you'd like) completely amazes me. Once again, I haven't played my copy yet so I'm not commenting on whether I think the review is accurate or not, I'm just shocked that IGN had the stones to do that.
I'm a bit surprised the sound section didn't get a lower score. I thought the engine noises were absolutely unacceptable. Some cars sound like their pulled straight out of GT3
Lets do the quick hits from this review
+The driving simulation is top notch
+premium cars look fucking amazing
+lighting and tracks look fucking amazing
-non premie cars are garbage, recycled PS2 models and textures
-engine sounds are lacking
-online is pretty barebones
-AI in A-spec is classic GT AI
-Damage is subpar and doesnt affect the driving
-menus are crap
Basically, the core of the game and whats important, the driving, is fantastic. Its just surrounded by a bunch of shit that could have been better and keeps the game from being legendary. I mean, really, only 200 cars are not crappy looking? I guess 200 is not bad and while the game seems to play well, I wonder where the delays and crap went. Feels like the game could have been out 2 years ago.
" Does anyone want my copy. I don't want it anymore. "No! I only play games with a 9.9 rating or above!
" @LeYcH: Because without reviews the average person who only watches a few trailers of a game and doesn't do their research is going to end up with a pile of crap games. "after a couple piles of $60 crap, i make sure to read reviews.
that said, 8.5 is not a bad score.
The fanboys are crying.

No likes on anything related to the PS3 or Wii. Good stuff IGN. Now I can officially say that this review is biased.
- some dude from IGN
The extent that these people would go to...
GT should just be a racing MMO you subscribe to and have quarterly discs that come with a magazine. It's car porn.
" @xyzygy: seeing as it took GT-PLanet (a crew with racing game fans that is presumabiliy good at the game), like 2 weeks to hit the better AI and car crashes, I can basically assume IGn never saw that part of the game. but 8.5 is a pretty damn good score anyway. "Why would a game have better AI and crashes later in the game? You either have good AI and physics or you don't.
He means the AI drivers get better in skill as you progress through the game. The physics are fine, if you are talking about crash damage, it improves or gets unlocked, depending on how you look at it, at higher levels. I don't understand the reasoning behind that (unlocking crash damage)." @StaticFalconar said:

The general feeling seems to be that GT5 is a game out of time - still classy as ever but the world has turned a good few times since they were kings.
Do people want an accurate simulator or a more immediate arcade experience? Are they still prepared to put in hours of driving the same tracks to discover it's depth and nuance in fint-tuning the tiniest of details? Do they want 1000 cars or just a few decent models to put anime babes on?
At this stage, it's too early to tell what the consumer response will be but I'm so glad it's finally in my PS3.
To me, IGN's review still make it sound fucking awesome. So what if he has some minor gripes with the game? He's a reviewer, he's not supposed to be Sony's stupid puppet.
Sony fanboys are terrible people. They complain when Killzone 2 gets "only" 8s and 9s and then they stop playing it five days later. Sure, the Xbox fanboys are bad too, but somehow, they aren't quite as bad when it comes to exclusives. Should everyone like a super-hardcore driving simulator? By no means. Call of Duty, Farmville and Smurf's Village, that's what most people are interested in nowadays. When my favourite movie of the year, Scott Pilgrim, tanked at the box office, I didn't cry. Sony fanboys, please do likewise.
