Rockstar returns to the fictional state of San Andreas with a crew of three criminal protagonists who work together to pull off a series of high-profile heists.
The map got leaked if you're interested in checking it out.
Are we certain this one is real? There's been so many mock-ups in the past few weeks that I'm a little wary.
Yes it is real. The strategy guide is in stores and Rockstar confirmed it.
@mustachio: This specifically is where the map came from
I still find it odd that their maps are always islands. I know it's the best way to avoid having to put invisible walls everywhere, but Los Angeles on an island feels really weird to me.
@slashdance: Bigger question is what happened to the Bridges to SF and LV from San andreas. Maybe they will explain in the game.
It looks like there are a bunch of smaller settlements scattered around the woodsy areas. Not like that one chunk of city is the only civilization in the game
Also, I wish r★ would make a companion map app that interacted with the game. Imagine being able to use a tablet to set waypoints. It would be infinitely useful for side content
One more thing: the map is completely open for you to explore from the get go, but employs an assassins creed 3 type fog of war where you actually have to explore to open it up. Not sure if there's anything gameplay wise that fills out the map quicker. That's what some dudes said on ign when answering questions about the game
@krullban: Oh, my god....
@bane: Can you throw Red Dead in there too?
@samstrife: No argument here. And to be honest, thinking more about it, it reminds me of the vast countryside of San Andreas, which I loved driving around, except bigger and more... alive.
In summary: I am stoked! Looking forward to jacking a dirt bike and exploring the countryside.
would like to see a side by side with GTA V LS vs GTAIV LC and RDR land mass. curious about the scale.
This game is really looking good. I can't wait to get my hands on it on the 17th. Looks like I'll have lots to explore.
I want this game so bad it hurts sometimes.
...I think I need a girlfriend.
You and me both, duder. You and me both.
looks like a page in a strategy guide. if the physical copy doesnt have a map I can put on my wall then I'm returning the piece of shit game. lol jk
but seriously i want a map
This map leaves me... concerned. More than half is just green with simple roads.
The city part looks very small in comparison. Unless the world is absolutely huge that is.
Well, feel free to prove me wrong GTA5.
Jim Sterling was just playing
Wait a minute, your telling me this game can tell your friends what you been doing in GTA V such as going to the stripclub? Just great, now I have to convince my friend's I'm only there just for the missions.
Oh and Jim Sterling is a sexist perv!!!!

Look at @krullban's GIF. That map does NO justice to the games actual scale/detail.
Will be great as long as there is meaningful stuff to do in those areas.
LOOK AT ALL OF THOSE LINES AND DOTS MAN!!!!!!
I've never been able to really get a sense of scale by looking at video game maps. That just looks like a small island. Seeing that actually makes me a little less excited. Even comparing it to San Andreas map makes it still feel oddly small. But I am sure it's not by any stretch. Man, I hope this game turns out well.
I'm still waiting for someone to show us Grove St. on that map!

I think this is the same case and the map of the earth having tiny land compared to all the water. Doesn't make the landmass small does it? :)
And people have been moaning about the size of the map, seriously I thought Red Dead felt huge (yes I know it was mostly desert) but some people are never satisfied. Plus it's bigger than the original San Andreas apparently and that world was huge.
Have to admit, I'm damn excited about this game more than I've been for a game in a while. San Andreas was such a great game, though R* lost me after GTA 4 which I enjoyed but hated because of it's story and Nico Bellic.
I think people are upset how "small" the world is is because of how big the roads are. In the past GTA games there was at most 4 lanes, San Andreas comes to mind, but now it seems to double it. Those multilane roads could be the reason why people think it looks small. As long as it's packed with things to do, I don't mind. Just Cause 2 had a massive world, and yet there was nothing to do.
