A great game with some occasionally frustrating boss fights
Guacamelee is a fun game. I have not played many "Metroidvania" games, in fact I still haven't played either Super Metroid or any Castlevania game (shame on me), but I think this game has inspired me to go back and play them. The art style and animation was a joy to look at and and when mixed with the music the games presentation was incredibly well done. The combat and platforming were fun and certainly provided a good bit of challenge in some of it's optional areas.
My only real point of issue with the game is with the boss fights. The last two boss fights in the game were frustrating and were a long way from what I'd consider to be fun. They regularly employed the colored shields seen throughout the enemies in the game where you would have to do a particular special attack to break it then hope to get in enough hits to bring down the bosses health bar a bit before a new shield would come up. Pair this with what felt like fairly cheap attacks which are incredibly difficult to block and it's not a good time.
Overall though, I'm happy I played through the game and would easily recommend it to any one else looking for a fun Vita game. Oh, and the cross-save support between the PS3 and Vita was an awesome feature I utilized quite a bit.
