One of the many reasons I dislike the Games as a Service future. When games like Hawken die, they are forever dead

    Pilots,

It’s been an incredible journey since the introduction of Hawken on Steam, back in 2014. The game’s

success has been largely due to your continuous support. The Hawken community has been the

    cornerstone of this ever-evolving franchise.

After 3 great years, we are shutting down the PC Steam servers to refocus our development efforts. The

PC game will officially be removed on January 2, 2018, and all DLC and purchasable content will also be

    unavailable starting today.

It’s been an incredibly rewarding experience working alongside such a dedicated PC player base. Your

feedback and support has been invaluable to us, and the team looks forward to creating more great

games based on what we’ve learned from you.

Thank you all very much for your support!

    The Hawken Team

It doesn't seem like too many people are still playing, but now's the time if you ever want to try it.

There are 55 people playing Hawken on Steam right now. 55.

It's a damn shame. When I played it last year for a few days it was actually pretty fun, reminded me a lot of the Titan combat in Titanfall with a lot more vertical movement and a more diverse crew of robots.

@mike: That's more than Lawbreakers sadly. Or Battleborn. Or Umbrella Corps. :(

@slag: I think the one thing these games have in common is that I'm not surprised they are all completely dead.

Man, I remember being so stoked for this game. Back in 2012 I went to their PAX East party, where Hawken was playable to people outside of the games press for the first time. The game was fun, definitely a well-made F2P game, and played for a little while after it was released.

Question though, is Hawken ONLY available on Steam? I know it migrated there eventually, but I was always under the impression that you could still play it using their own client without Steam?

That sucks. Hawken is a great game that unfortunately didn't gain enough traction. I'm glad I was at least able to play a good amount of it early on when the player count was decent.

Just an interesting note, it's apparently still in Early Access.

A shame - I really enjoyed it for what it was.

If I recall, Hawken released on consoles not too long ago and they were going to focus on that. I wonder if the console versions are going to shut down soon as well?

So this is the second time right? I remember this thing going away for a bit and then getting revived. I always loved the look of this thing. Just looked so overstuffed with detail and industrial bits and bobs, but in a good way. There's a lot going on but you're still able to take it all in without feeling especially overwhelmed, as if the visuals were constantly screaming in your face.

But the flipside to the game was that there wasn't anything in particular gameplay-wise to pull me away from other things. It was a perfectly servicable FPS from what I remember, again, with a neat look. But I guess that just wudn't enough. Their statement makes it sound like the console versions aren't necessarily gonna follow the same path.
