So yeah, I'm really thinking about buying a PS3 just to play this game. Last month, I bought Indigo Prophecy on Steam, played it, and, like most, enjoyed the story and what the game was trying to do, more than how it actually executed it (making a sort of interactive story thing, rather than a traditional video game).
I'm a huge fan of storytelling through videogames, and this game looks like pretty much everything I want in a story-centric game right now. Is it bad that there's a very good chance that I'm going to buy a PS3 at least mostly to play this game? (There are other PS3 games that I want to play reasonably well, too, but not as bad as this.)
I just wish it was coming out on the PC or 360, my platforms of choice (in that order).
Heavy Rain
Game » consists of 12 releases. Released Jan 25, 2010
An interactive thriller from the studio behind Indigo Prophecy, sporting a dark storyline involving the investigation of a mysterious serial killer.
Is it bad that I might totally buy a PS3 95% to play this game?
Seeing as I bought a PS3 just for MGS4, I'd be stupid to criticise someone else for buying a console for one game.
I know that Uncharted 1 & 2 are action adventure games, but if you are really into story and characters these games are also a huge incentive to push you closer to a PS3
Wait, it's a PS3 exclusive? Aw, bummer. Well, I'm not too interested in it, to be honest, but like others said, there's plenty of great exclusives on the PS3 now to make it worth having.
PS3 has some awesome games. Heavy Rain does look badass. I'd say buy it if you have the extra money.
I think you should go for it. It's not like Heavy Rain is the only game worth buying on PS3 right now. Buy it for Heavy Rain. Enjoy it for more than Heavy Rain.
It's no longer cool to be hating on Ps3. Pick one up and enjoy the games already. You should check out all the exclusives all the way back to Heavenly Sword.
Both the 360 and the PS3 have really solid exclusives & I would have a hard time choosing just one right now. I got a 360 early in the cycle and jumped on the PS3 when the slim came out. The game that had the most buzz at that time was Uncharted 2.
This is gonna sound weird but what closed the deal for me was Katamari Forever !
I'm not that excited about Hard Rain but that's just me. I just hope that it doesn't end up being more like a movie than a game...
When you think about it, the only way not to want both of those systems would be to not even look or hear about the exclusives on the system you don't have.
At least, the multiplatform games are also really solid and have pretty much become the norm; outside of exclusive series IP owned by the platform makers.
Huh? It's only bad if u can't afford it. Otherwise you'll end up getting more PS3 exclusives anyway. Win/win!
I played the demo, it's utterly absorbing, but there's a long way to go yet. I'll wait for the crew's verdict before deciding on a day one purchase.
The PS3 is a pretty sweet machine. I also own a 360, and I love that too. I'm really looking forward to getting around to Mass Effect 2.
If you can afford both consoles, then get them. They're both excellent machines. "Get off the fence!" you say, but it's true.
There are some fantastic exclusives on both systems, all of them well known to anyone reading this thread. Scientific fact.

Yeah, it's like life in a way...
You don't HAVE to choose to just like Girls or just like Guys. You can have it all !
At least it's hot when girls do it.
Just sayin'
I certainly wouldn't buy it to play Heavy Rain.
Then again, I wouldn't buy Heavy Rain to play Heavy Rain.
Still, I have one and would buy one to play a number of other exclusives.
I don't think any game is worth a $360 console/game purchase but I think that PS3 is certainly at a point that there is enough unique things between PS3 and PSN games (not to mention, a great bluray and dvd player) that it is absolutely a console worth owning. While no game is worth $360 dollars, I certainly think Heavy Rain is enough of a catalyst to push toward making the purchase.
Well it's fine to buy a console for a game, I bought my xbox for Halo 2, and my PS3 for MGS4. Hell I bought a wii for mario galaxy, and ended up staying for No More Heroes. It's fine. You usually end up finding other games you're into, and liking some of the unique aspects of the system. I've really given my PS3 more use since, since I mainly wanted a blu-ray player and MGS, but now I've been playing Uncharted 2, and inFamous and other things. So you never know. I say most consoles out are worth owning. I mean I was a bit disappointed with my Wii after enjoying 5 or so games, and I don't really play it anymore, but everything else I've bought for one game I've stuck with.
I bought mine for one game and that was two years ago...there is many, many, many reasons to buy a PS3 now though.
So I walked into Walmart last night for a short shift, fully prepared to purchase a PS3 and Heavy Rain and maybe another game on the way out.
But... I guess our local Walmart is all out of PS3s. So they checked online... oops, they're all out there, too. Apparently they've been out for awhile, and they have no knowledge of getting any more in the near future.
So now I'm going to go PS3 hunting at some point, checking out local stores to see if anyone has one. I won't get my discount (10% at Walmart), but meh. It just kind of sucks, though, because I thought all this supply-and-demand bullshit over PS3s ended like two years ago.
No, because eventually you'll start getting the other great games coming to the console, also god of war 3 is a little over two weeks away, and if heavy rain isn't a reason to buy a console that game is.
Dude, was totally thinking the same thing!! But I have to buy a car atm so can't and probably won't, but really want to play it and Uncharted 2
I bought my PS3 specifically for this game. It's not that dumb, because now I have a Blu-Ray Player.
As far as Heavy Rain goes. The PS3 is great to get but this game itself may not be right for pushing you over unless you get other games. But this game is not a must have, but a must play, if you can even call it playing. It is definitely a game that I feel like I will play through only once. Its like a great book or movie. Good but its not one of those you can go back to on a lazy saturday to play. Mostly because you already went through it. You have Die Hard which is a good action movie and you can watch pieces to get a good action sequence and you are fine. But games like this, like Oscar Winning movies are an investment of time. And really only need to do it once.
