Gameplay reveal

It resembles homeworld more than Icould have hoped (spiritual prequel???). I am now OK with gearbox and their weird decision to acquire the HW franchise, given how well blackbird evokes that crazy cool industrial sci-fi vibe (coloured stripes everwer), i doubt the core HW talent even remains at relic. Homeworld always felt like it was designed by artists, you could tell conveyance of mood was high priority, this seems no different.

Given all that, the textures seem a little rough and i really wish it wasn't F2P (no single player?) but watever, if nothing ill get some amazing ship/ vehicle designs out of this.

So ready for this. I miss 90's PC strategy. So good to see some of them coming back, and not all ruined under EA's banner either.

I'm genuinely interested after watching a trailer; I can't remember the last time a trailer did anything for me.

This. I'm so bummed that Relic didn't get to keep the license. More bummed that Gearbox apparently aren't interested in doing more with the IP than a F2P game.

If it's free to play doesn't always mean there can't be a single player. A single player is an alright way to tutorialize game mechanics, especially in an RTS. Just hold out a little hope.

Ah, alright. Still, it looks awesome. Although I'm a bit unsure as to how these guys can get away with a Homeworld-lookalike. I mean sure, the setting is different, but it seems like the zoom-out and the snap-to-unit camera are both lifted directly from Homeworld 2.

That didn't look very Homeworld-y to me. I have very specific memories of Homeworld and they all involve being in space and having one big capital ship. The coolest thing about Homeworld was not being limited to ground units and having this completely 3D battlefield. The graphics are somewhat reminiscent of the original but I'm not even sure if that is a specific aesthetic or simply low polygon, low texture 3D units which at the time were a technical limitation.

This is well on the radar now. Looks like quite a bit of development to go, very concept.

Getting more of a Ground Control than Homeworld vibe from this, but I still like what I've seen so far. Hope they'll keep the full 3D space RTS parts.

Meaning we can expect to see a proper homeworld 3 in a couple of years. Also probably a shitty gearbox shooter in some sort of spin off.

Oh, wow, I hadn't watched the Homeworld intro in many years and had forgotten about the first part of it, which this video very specifically recreates. I'm a bit more hyped for this now.
