If i had to guess, i'd go for A. (my vote)  we were hyping like fuck for RDR just a year ago, so people aren't ready to get super excited for another R* game so soon.
     C is a close second.

it's B for me personally. I wish Mafia II didn't fucking exist so i'd be more psyched to play a 40's-50's noire game. now that i've played the story-great but gameplay-crippled Mafia II, i've no interest in driving those old cars and shooting tommy guns.
i enjoyed Mafia II but FUCK Mafia II for ruining this R* experience for me.'

So why do you think a game of such high caliber has almost no forum hype at all ?

I've seen a commercial on TV for it, I just think they're waiting a little longer then they will roll out some more ads for it.

You make a good point: like every new RDR screenshot simultaneously burst everyone into a sea of their pleasure matter, while with everything from L.A Noire is like a sneeze.. only a 7th :P Probably because L.A Noire, while very well marketed as you'd expect, isn't another GTA game, with such a strong emphasis towards the detective work; the difference with RDR is that was seen by many (and was to an extent if you had to simplify) GTA - The Old West.

What L.A Noire needs is more funny eastern European accents and bear screenshots.

i guess my answer's C...kinda. I'll go with E. it's just gaming has been hit with a large influx of speculative information right now, between the new Nintendo console and the Sony hack...that's overshadowing any hype for the games releasing this month and probably won't let up until after E3.

So its more bad timing under new circumstances.

Option G: There's been a lot of big talk in gaming circles about L.A Noire thanks to the facial capture tech they're using as something to watch out for, and there's been a steady drip feed of gameplay information over the past few months, too. I'd say there's been a good deal of hype for the game, but it's just been on a bit of a slow burner.

And as with other big Rockstar games, the push toward more mainstream attention probably won't come until next week, or perhaps even the week after. I remember seeing nothing about RDR on TV or in the form of billboards, etc. last year until virtually the week it came out, when it suddenly exploded and was here, there and everywhere. I imagine something similar will occur for L.A Noire - and let's be honest, slapping 'from the studio that bought you Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption' on their TV ads will generate a lot of interest from within the mainstream audience.

I voted G, but you already know that because I told you.  :O

There's a fair amount of hype. Not as much as RDR, but it's to be expected when the game's being made by an unfamiliar team.

Because its rather unknown for people who don't visit gaming site on a regular basis. As people already have stated in this thread, as we get closer to the launch and shortly after it I think people will be more hyped when the ads start rolling out.

I think people probably aren't interested in the setting. They look at it and think, "Oh, it's just GTA, but in the 40s."

I don't think there's any less hype for Noire than there was for Red Dead Redemption. Also it doesn't say GTA in the title, so you can't expect that kind of level. That's just how marketing works.

Amazing games have been released so often this year that it's kinda hard to get hyped on a game more than a few weeks ahead. I didn't even know Portal 2 was coming out until, like, 2-3 days before it happened.

It's probably because the game still has two weeks left before release. Most games aren't marketed more than two weeks before their release. You want the game to be fresh in people's minds days before a game ships--not months.

Because it hasn't been properly advertised yet. Once I see those adds all over the internet I will be hyped and probably pre-order this. Just like I did with Red Dead Redemption.

    And hey, it isn't GTA.

I think that that Rockstar just need to be marketing this game as a big deal. A MAJOR release. Not unlike a new Grand Theft Auto. They have to make it out that it's just as important.

I barely noticed any hype for RDR last year besides my own, and in comments from it's videos and it still sold well. I'm guessing the same thing will happen with this.

I'd say if RockS did this on there own there'd be much more hype, but having someone else develop the game might have a lot to do with it.

There is hype. They release brand new trailers every few months and I've seen ads on websites and in some magazines.  I just don't think it is the kind of game that gets you personally excited probably, if there is a game you are really interested in then you usually can't wait for the newest footage.
Also, I don't think Rockstar want to show much of the game, so that when it comes out everyone is shocked by how good it is and if it has 'Game of the Year' qualities. (If it ends up being good.)

Personally it is a game I am looking forward to and will most likely buy when it comes out... WHICH IS VERY SOON!!! :D

I've seen plenty of saturation for it compared to that of most releases.

What I find odd is the lack of advertising related to gameplay. The tech is impressive, but they seem to be focusing almost entirely on facial expressions and grasps at gravitas. I was quite interested in the game last year, but the marketing has done nothing to build on that interest. Where's the substance?

I fear the game might turn into another Heavy Rain (i.e., a novelty that takes itself seriously at the expense of fun). Maybe it will be a fun and interesting game, but until the ads toss a little substance in with the style, I'm increasingly skeptical.

And let's not forget that the setting for the game late 40's LA and the style being Noire detective action might not appeal at first to a large number of people, but it the game is good or great then it'll open things for a 2nd Noire that they'll no doubt push harder.

Both versions of the game are in the top 20 of Amazon's video games charts, it's the most popular game right now on IGN and it's still two weeks out. I don't think anyone ever thought this would receive GTA-level attention, but I think it'll be more akin to RDR. People are initially wary of R* trying new things (a western with Red Dead and now a detective game not focused on killing dudes) but then the reviews hit, the commercials start running and positive word of mouth from day one buyers all contribute to solid, sustained sales. Of course, all of that is based off the assumption that this turns out to be as great as it looks. I for one really hope it delivers. It's been my most anticipated game of this year for a while now.

They haven't been going the oversaturation route with the PR, and there haven't been many if any preview events for the game, even though it's a new IP. I don't know, I think they're taking it slow before selling it to the mainstream with the beautiful new lip syncing (IT'S LIKE MAD MEN WITH GUNS LOOK AT IT etc).

I just have to say "Other".  It seems interesting to me, but it seems like a very different game from that of Red Dead or Grand Theft Auto.  I think it has a much more limited appeal to us hardcore gamers.  I will probably end up picking this game up at release or soon after (still need to get around to Portal 2) with school being out in the next week or two.

    1. Outside of the core audience, people don't know (yet?) it exists
    2. Rockstar kiddies are unsure about the new approach
    3. Fans of the new approach are unsure about the fact that it is a rockstar game
    4. Team Bondi has no hypeworthy track record

I am carefully curious about the game but my fear is that it will just be another GTA/RDR with a few gimmicks. Others fear that it will not be GTA/RDR enough. I'd say at this point everyone is just waiting for reviews.

Rockstar is probably holding on a little bit until the game's release to bring the marketing campaign. There's already some hype but like all Rockstar games information is a little bit scarce.

Option D is the only one that matters to the big audience. A, B and C only matters to us who cares to read an article or two about games.

L.A. Noir has to prove itself because, frankly, so far it looks like a interactive movie. Slow cars, weak guns and uncanny-valley-faces. Where's the fun?

I, myself, are exited to see the end product. Hope it'll be good.

Here are at least the reasons I dont care about the game:

    1. retailer specific DLC. yes you get the core game when you buy it but the sheer amount of cases you miss out on because they are exclusive to a retailer is unbelievable and I'll be dammed if I am buying them as paid DLC.

    2. rockstar can not tell a proper story to save its life.

    3. after GTA IV and Red Dead Rebemption I just can not get hype about any rockstar games after being so let down.
