Overview
Levantera: Tale of the Winds is a retro inspired action-adventure side scrolling platformer with open world gameplay. Published by Lasso Games.
Gameplay
The player assumes the role of Captain, piloting the M.S. Tradewind through deadly waters until making anchor at a variety of ports or uncharted wilderness.
The majority of gameplay comes from exploring the coast for treasure and supplies. The player can find abandoned mines, caves, dense forests, and rocky outcroppings filled with deadly foes. These enemies, while protecting the booty from explorers, can also drop important items. There are a variety if weapons to find and use, separated into three categories. Main weapons include swords, machetes, and other basic arms. Sub weapons are more specialized, allowing for a ranged attack option or other situational attack. Tools are items that take up both Main and Sub weapon slots, but can be toggled on or off. These are used to perform tasks other weapons cannot, such as chopping up a stump to gather wood.
There are also mysterious upgrades in certain areas of the world, granting the player special abilities called Techs that can be used both in and out of combat.
After marauding the coast the player can take the ship out to explore further or make port. However, pirates will attempt to destroy the ship and claim its bounty for themselves. If the crew can brave the seas and return to civilization, the player can trade any valuable goods they found on their journey to merchants.
