Van Hecke worked at Absolute Entertainment from 1989 until the company's closure in 1995, composing the scores and serving as audio director for many of their games and those of their subsidiary, Imagineering Inc. Before joining Absolute, the University of Milwaukee graduate had composed for avante-garde Wisconsin theatre troupes such as Theatre X, and collaborated with the folk-punk band Violent Femmes on their first demo tape and subsequent first two albums, producing all three. (Van Hecke's piano work can best be heard on the self-titled album's closer Good Feeling.)
