I almost guarantee there aren't children for ratings reasons. Maybe with DA getting a pass going forward it won't be such a big deal, but any violence that could happen to children caused lots of problems, especially in Germany (and now likely Australia). The lack of female turians was almost certainly due to not wanting to make a model for a character that had no overall plot need.
Mass Effect 2
Game » consists of 21 releases. Released Jan 26, 2010
After a violent death by an unknown force and a timely reanimation by the human supremacist organization Cerberus, Commander Shepard must assemble a new squad in the seedier side of the galaxy for a suicide mission in the second installment of the "Mass Effect" trilogy.
STILL no female turians, quarians, krogran or elcor
" @Bummey said:" You know, not all alien species have such stark visible differences in gender like we humans do. Look at nearly any animal on our own planet. Without getting down and looking for their dangly bits (on those species that have visible ones), it takes specific knowledge to be able to differentiate a male from a female. "This isn't true for most mammalian species. The higher up animals have different faces, physiques, sizes, features, and especially behaviors that separate male from female. This is obvious in cattle and deers, but if you spend enough time around cats and dogs you can tell their gender without having to reference the genitals. That said, there's no excuse to not have female or child aliens. DO IT BIOWARE. "
Granted, but you can't discount the other mammals and the rest of the animal kingdom that don't follow that path with a simple post like that. And these are aliens, and we have seen female turians and krogan. They all look male to us, but to them the differences couldn't be more obvious.
Rather than complain about how we never see children or females, complain about how the only part of the Citadel you're able to visit is a market district and the human ambassador's office. If we were able to enter residential districts I imagine the people we'd encounter would be much more varied.
There are definitely female Batarians, the first one you meet on Omega is mentioned as a woman and you can't tell their species apart by gender. I'm not saying that all species we haven't seen women of are like this, but in the case of Elcor and Volus and such there is a good chance that some of those we've seen have been female.
I actually didn't have a problem with this. Mass Effect 2 was very much focused on the specific mission. I'd guess that Mass Effect 3 will get way into a lot of the different aliens and stuff.
The bigger problem I had is this: I saw no children, very few old people, and nobody is overweight. Maybe that's future technology, but it's weird.
The problem with posting Wrex porn is that what is seen cannot be unseen, and seeing that will probably make my eyes bleed." @jmrwacko: i would post some wrex porn here but im sure it would be banned. and the quarian thing was a typo, meant to say salarian. "

Actually, they're technically asexual. It's hinted at that there's no actual "entry" with asari-human sex, it's all just mindmelding. But yes, they look like hot blue chicks.
The only people I really remember being made to look old very well through appearance were Warden Kuril from Purgatory and probably anyone who was bald.
BioWare is lazy for not including females of some races. Also because a lot of the levels have similar crates and doors. Also because the game is only 30 hours and not 80. Also because Shepard can't choose to not work for Cerberus and explore an entirely different plot. Also because they made design decisions that would result in crew members potentially dying. Also because you can't walk around the Presidium.
I wonder how game developers force themselves to release games, because it seems nothing is ever enough for some people.
" @Apathylad said:They're all gender neutral." Now that I think about, are there any male Asaris? "They're an all female race. "
The salarians are amphibian haplo-diploid egg-layers; unfertilized eggs produce males and fertilized eggs produce females. Once a year, a salarian female will lay a clutch of dozens of eggs. Social rules prevent all but a fraction from being fertilized. As a result, 90% of the species is male.
Normally, the rare salarian females are cloistered on their worlds out of tradition and respect. Powerful female Dalatrasses are dynasts and political kingpins. They determine the political course of their respective regions through shrewd negotiation. Though male salarians rise to positions of great authority in business, academia, or the military, they rarely have any input on politics, though the salarian representative on the Citadel Council is male.
Due to their method of reproduction, salarians have no concept of romantic love, sexual attraction, or the biological impulses and social rituals that complicate other species' lives. Male-female relationships are rare (due to the scarcity of females) and more akin to human friendship. Sexuality is strictly for the purpose of reproduction. Ancient social codes determine who gets to fertilize eggs, which produces more daughters to continue the bloodline. Fertilization generally only occurs after months of negotiation between the parents' clans, and is done for purposes of political and dynastic alliance. No salarian would imagine defying this code.
- However, Abrudas, a female turian from Mass Effect: Evolution, is the first female turian to be visually seen in the series
" @JustTheDoctor said:Well you get to fuck her and her body is shaped like a woman and gay male Shepard hasn't happened yet so..."Are you sure Tali is a female? "
Tali is a quarian.
"
Next game you should be able to sleep with the jellyfish people. That would get the game so much publicity.
