    I'm a Vanguard and I haven't found an SMG yet. I'm not done with all of the recruitment missions, but I heard one can be found early on in one of them. How far in and where can I get it? Thanks

    I have the machine pistol that I started with...that's what they consider an SMG? Wow, if I had known that I would have chosen a different class.

    The Tali mission is on the second set of dossiers, a little later into the game. But honestly, the heavy pistol is better than the SMG anyway. Once I unlocked the assault rifle proficiency, I never used the smg again.

    You can choose between a Krogan Shotgun, assault rifle training, or sniper rifle training later on in the game.

    I can't remember when I got mine, but I don't think it's the Machine pistol. Well, unless it fires fully auto without needing to tap the trigger. I can't really remember, but my SMG is pretty good.
     
    Though I really, really wish I took Assault Rifle training instead of Shotgun...

    Thats only one SMG. There are more later on. I played as an adept, and I had a fast firing high dmg SMG with about 60 rounds in it at at time, that held an extra almost 700.

    @Louis0nFire: There's an actual SMG that you find when on the mission to recruit Tali. She is on a dossier in the second round of dossiers that you get from the Illusive man. Has 50 rounds per clip and with upgrades you can hold upwards of 700+ rounds for it as a maximum. Using it now as a Sentinel, its nice.
