Mega Man
The Mega Man (known in Japan as Rockman) franchise covers a large number of action games from the core series and several offshoots, including Mega Man X, Mega Man Battle Network, and even one-offs like Mega Man Soccer or Mega Man Battle & Chase.
A Lesson in How Not to Cancel a Video Game

I do my best to avoid that. Can you point out what you'd consider sensational about my stories? I'm not being sarcastic.
Holy crap, where did they find the dude that is running the CapcomEuro account. Maybe he's not a native English speaker? They just don't seem recognize the obvious rage they're brewing up with BS responses.@AzHP said:
If you guys think the first responses from Capcom Euro are fucked up, take a look at this post from neogaf which takes the best quotes from their twitter and screencaps them for all to see. Holy shit that last quote would be fucking hilarious if it wasn't so depressing.
The thing that bums me it is that Capcom's track record would be at least tolerable of the internal politics of the company weren't so fucked. I mean so many high ranking devs left Capcom Japan and things tend not to go well for any Western developers who try their hand at a Capcom game.
So yeah I guess the real question is whether we've finally seen the last of Capcom in so far as not being just another Japanese developer (at least in the States). Personally I haven't cared for a while but that's me.
I don't know what that guy is talking about. It seems pretty matter-of-fact "here's what happened" to me.@sofacitysweetheart said:

People are getting way too pissed about this.I don't think the problem is the cancellation. It's more about how the studio told fans to take part, and then blamed them directly for the cancellation. To invite your playerbase inside to help with a project directly is an amazing task. I mean, my pants would explode if Nintendo did something like that with Zelda, but when a game fails, that doesn't give you a right to insult your fans.
The way Capcom handled this is childish and infuriating. Even as someone who didn't care at all about this game, I'm sickened by the way this is being handled.
That wasnt a very good article. I know not all articles should be objective, but this one is just snide and biased.
Also, you guys who keep idolizing patrick arent really helping. If you tell the dude that everything he makes is the best thing ever, cause you want to be liked by him, you actually end up making him lower his standards. He writes some great articles, and fairly often, but the idolizing is getting out of hand.
" ...that's well on it's way to passing 10,000 likes on the social network."
Wrong "it's/its", Patrick! You're fired!
In lieu of writing something new, I'm going to repost what I said on the cancellation news story, because it continues to be true:
Honestly, I'm glad this is dead. There is no way this was ever going to be good.
It really pains me to say that because I love me some Mega Man Legends, and the fact that Tron made her way into MvC3 made it seem like Capcom actually cared. That said, their plan of "getting the fans involved" always rubbed me the wrong way. Capcom tried to push it like they were pulling a Bastion and giving us an inside glimpse into the development of this game and letting us watch how things come together and help out in our own way, but it always felt like exactly what it was - a shrewd, slimy attempt by Capcom corporate to monitor just how many people actually gave a fuck about MML3 because they were willing to gamble on it, but not that much. Call me crazy, but I don't want to play some game I helped make, because I don't know shit about game design; I want an artist with a vision to make a game, and if it doesn't click with me, then fine, but at least it doesn't feel like some focus tested bullshit that speaks to me because demographics say it should. MML3 never had that feeling, and honestly that makes its death fine by me.
It's just a shame that there's now one less 3DS game I care about.
I'll really never understand why they didn't just release that prototype. If it sold poorly, there's your good and not-vague-at-all reason to cancel production.
Also. I looked into the game a decent amount a few months ago, and never got the impression or info that there was already a forum you could contribute at. From what I gathered that forum would be opened after the prototype launched. So I feel there was a lack of advertisement/publication on that end.

I have no freaking idea, I half am thinking it's a troll account with how terrible the responses are. But the sad part is that I know it's not...
I want to know how the fuck the fans had ANYTHING (particularly why they are even mentioned in the process of development at all) to do with this seeing as it was never even released as a prototype on the eshop?
Apologies if it's already been posted (I'm on my phone), but there's also that 4chan post from a Capcom employee (allegedly) who posted in January the exact date it would be cancelled, saying it was a scam to sell the 3DS.
@iAmJohn: I think people are more concerned with the fact that Capcom began the project joyfully inviting fans to participate, then completely shit all over those same fans when they cancelled it.
I personally was a little uncomfortable with the whole thing (calling it a 'project' and having fan voting determine game assets) but it doesn't change the fact that Capcom put this on the table, then passed the buck when it failed.
That's because it is matter-of-fact. I don't know if these guys have ever actually been to another website, like Kotaku or Destructoid, which regularly feature articles about spurious rumors with question marks in the title. Headlines designed purely to get you to click on them.@patrickklepek said:

Don't listen to these whiners, Patrick! This is an important story! I wanted Legends 3 so badly god damn it
Ace Attorney fans are also hurting after Capcom's decision not to localize Ace Attorney Investigations 2. Here's to hoping that is atoned for as well.

That being said, I don't really give a shit, because I would have at least liked the chance to see if it was going to turn out good or not!

That's really too bad; Capcom hasn't been looking good for a while now and this isn't going to help. Rude comments to the fans, given by someone low in the company or not, give a representation of how Capcom feels about their customers. Do the people running these companies social media pages not understand that? I can't say I've been following the development of this game much, but I do love the Mega Man series and have for years...it's just too bad its looking like the franchise is all but over
@Thiago123: Very hard to tell. Here's the picture in question.
To be honest, I think it's real for one particular reason. When MML3 was announced, fans were estatic (myself included). It then came out officially through Capcom that they were going to do a demo because the full game. That demo then became a 'prototype'. Then it was leaked, NOT announced that Capcom still had not green lit MML3 and is using the Prototype version as a means to measure fan reaction and hence sales regarding Megaman Legends 3.
This whole saga has been pretty crazy. As a huge Megaman Legends fan waiting for the last 10 or so years for a conclusion to the story, this kind of annoys me but not surprisingly. Capcom has been fucking around with MML fans for ages - from chucking Servbots in so many games, featuring MML stages in other games, heck even Megaman Volnutt (the Megaman from MML) was removed from MvC Ultimate but they fucking have the audacity to include a specific Megaman Legends stage in the game?
Capcom has seriously fucked up their reputation with this, if it hasn't already with it's millions of rehashes. Smart moving leaving Inafune.

I think what bothers me most is that if they had just focused on making the game, not pull any gimmicks, or prototypes, and just marketed it like any other megaman game, it probably would have done fine. It was a 3DS game, those aren't expensive to make relatively speaking, and at this point 3DS owners will probably buy anything.
I mean it looked a cool action adventure, I've never played a MML game, but hey I was actually on board for it. Maybe not enough to buy a 3DS, but if I got one down the line it would have been something I'd have looked at.
I think Capcom and really Japanese game companies in general, but especially Capcom are pretty out of touch with their western fanbase. "Oh you want western style games, because you're American of course. So here's some half-assed attempts at emulating that style instead of making games we know how to make."
Ace Attorney fans are also hurting after Capcom's decision not to localize Ace Attorney Investigations 2. Here's to hoping that is atoned for as well.Whaaa? They aren't localising Perfect Prosecutor 2? Crap. I really liked the first game. I guess I should start learning Japanese with my friend then.

Wow, just wow.
Honestly, I was excited about the idea of another Mega Man Legends 3. I wasn't excited though about it being on a 3DS, make it for the PSN or XBLA!
@sofacitysweetheart: Well, they did a not-so-sensationalized article a few days ago, right? I mean, sure, it's full of snark, but that's Alex Navarro. If the game had been given a release date it still would've been snarky. Nothing out of the ordinary in that article.
This one's CLEARLY an editorial, and I knew that the moment I read the title, especially having just read another article about it a few days ago. Some of Patrick's articles are totally clean; others are editorials like this one. Personally, I find the editorials fascinating, as he actually has the connections to put the heat on people like Svensson directly.
I don't care, and I don't think many other people care either, which would probably substantiate Capcom's tactless claims.
I would never play that game but I know plenty of Megaman fans and those guys go fucking bonkers about Megaman Legends.
