I've noticed a lot of people hating on this game, and I don't understand the reasoning. What i'm getting at is the general "MGS IS RUINED!!!11" stuff. You guys aren't even criticizing the game for good reasons! It looks to me as though people are putting this series up on a pedestal; acting as if the lore of Metal Gear is sacred (lol) and Rising is shitting all over that lore. I don't get this at all and want to address it.

I've played Metal Gear Solid 1 - 4, Portable Ops, and Peace Walker. I liked most of those games. Some of them are a bit janky, but not bad. Peace Walker happens to be my favorite game in the series. Anyway, the games are absurd and crazy (though I happen to enjoy that) especially when you look at the bosses you fight. A weird vampire man who can't, supposedly, die. A fellow who shoots bees at you, and uses the bees to form a submachine gun and shoot more bees at you. Gray Fox wants you to hurt him, and he wants you to hurt him more. A really fat guy who rides around on roller skates and builds nuclear weapons. A fight with Solidus at Federal Hall involving swords on top of a giant mech. Volgin and his electricity suit, as well as a chase involving a giant nuclear mech and a motorcycle. I could go on further but the point is clear, beating a dead horse and whatnot. These characters are hilarious and a lot of fun, but if you ask me, they're also completely batshit and crazy. Why are some of you guys taking this series so damn serious?

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance looks like it's going to continue this trend of delightful absurdity. Based on what i've seen it's going to be really fast paced, possibly crazier than any past Metal Gear game, and a lot of fun. I'd like to argue that taking all of this a step further makes a lot of sense for Metal Gear. We're getting the same fun universe, a game starring a character I happen to like quite a bit; Raiden, and what looks to be a very competent game in general. I always assumed people like Metal Gear games because of how funny and weird they are, not because of the Boss' philosophizing about loyalty to your country or to me, or Old Snake's commentary about how war has changed. At least I never took that stuff too seriously. I think it's extremely dramatic and corny, though I will say that it adds some humor to these games which are already absurd. I do like this stuff.

If you're a Metal Gear fan who thinks the series is ruined by Rising, I suppose this is the thread for you.

I don't get it either? Lack of stealth I guess, but its a spinoff so I think it is fair to expect a different experience.

I don't know; I'm pretty excited for it. If Platinum manages to combine the sheer insanity of Hideo Kojima with their own, it might become one of the most absurdly amazing games we've seen in a while. Who knows, though. We'll see, I guess.

My friend, who is a HUGE MGS fan, is totally fine with this game since it's not a Metal Gear Solid game. I guess the way he reasons it is that the Solid series was the story of Snake, Liquid and Big Boss. Metal Gear Rising allows them to pursue a new character within the universe as the central protagonist (e.g. Raiden). That's what he told me anyway.

I am ok with this game because it's Platinum and I hope it's even half as crazy as Bayonetta.

I can't wait to see what it actually is and how it will play. If it's like the trailer that they showed then it will basically be Bayonetta with Raiden. I will still play it but I'm waiting for MGS5 to be announced at some point before I die.

Bayonetta is one of my favorite games ever. Seriously. I can't fuckin' wait for this.

Yeah I don't really get it either. I mean, Kojima is already working on a real MGS anyway, so if people complain about this not being "real MGS" they can just pick that up in a few years and in the mean time have a nice spinoff to play.

Besides, it's not even trying to be "real MGS" which is why the name is MGR.

By which you mean that it had to be rescued from his inept new team at KojiPro and farmed out to Platinum. That minidoc they put out to announce the change-over really made Kojima's guys sound like chumps.

People hate on it because they're reactionary idiots. Personally, I'm incredibly excited for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Kojima traditionalists will always have a bone to pick. It's why he gets death threats whenever he announces he's going to leave Metal Gear to a younger generation.

I love Hideo, but I only have the best expectations for what Platinum Games can do after Bayonetta and Vanquish.

I never played a MGS game, because I suck at stealth, but I'm pretty excited for this one. I always thought of cyber-ninja Raiden as an interesting character :)

The only people who get angry are the fans who didn't realize that MGS was always a joke and not something to be taken seriously.

I suppose hate is a bit bombastic. What i'm referencing are the Metal Gear traditionalists who do, it seems, actually hate this game for doing something different. Sensible people generally don't appear to hate this game.

There seems to be a lot more indifference to it than hate. I think it looks like the stupidest thing in the world, and I shall be buying it day one.

It's not that I already hate it, it's the fuck it's not metal gear. There's no stealth for one, and the fact it doesn't look like a metal gear game at all. Seriously. Look a it. If it wasn't called Metal Gear Solid, would you EVER compare it to the others?

I'm a huge MG nut and I cannot wait for this game. I was grinning ear to ear watching the trailer. While it definitely has stupid shit in it, I can overlook it for the craziness. When I saw Raiden pick up the Ray variant, for instance, a part of me thought "Yeah, that's pretty bad and doesn't belong in Metal Gear." but another, bigger part thought "Dude, he's picking up a Ray and tossing it!! I want this"

I do wish they'd say it's non-canon but I'll take it however they present it.

I like Metal Gear Solid. But I also like when people hate things.. I'm glad I can enjoy both.

This. I'm disappointed because that story had a lot of potential.

However Platinum will make a better cyber-ninja Raiden game than Kojima Productions ever could.

Let them hate it who cares, let the game prove if its crap or great when its actually in peoples hands.

I personally haven't noticed anyone really banging on it if i'm honest.

I think it looks pretty badass myself. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Because with games, the franchise has to stay exactly the same forever or it's ruined and dumbed down and awful and they've pissed right in your mouth. Make it look nicer, make it play smoother, add a couple of new ideas if you really feel like you must, but keep everything exactly the same as it was - that's how you keep your fans happy making video games.

Yep, taking itself seriously.

The fact that Platinum is making it makes me super excited. And I agree, no idea where the hate stems from. Maybe because they dislike Raiden? (which I never really got either)
