THQ & 4A Games have released the debut trailer for Metro 2033, the video game based on the novel of the same name by cult Russian author, Dmitry A. Glukhovsky's

Metro 2033 is set in Russia at a time when a major disaster has wreaked havoc on the planet. You will evolve in the murky depths of Moscow subway and will need to survive the harsh realities that confront you.

I'm really looking forward to this, if it stays true to the the novel it's going to be awesome, in the same way as The Last Wish and The Witcher were.  The game is expected early next year on PC and Xbox 360. The PC version will be compatible with the PhysX technology from nVidia.

Has anyone else read a translation of the novel?

It's now available in English on Amazon Books:

More Stalker-esque shenanigans are fine by me, nice different post-apoc style too.

If this game hits the spot, and it certainly should do given it's source material, THQ could well start lifting themselves out of their own murky hole.

i read both the 1st book and metro 2034, theyr both pretty good, im pretty psyched about the game, since half its developers are the people who made S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (BET YOU DIDNT KNOW THAT HUH)

No I didn't know that, but I did know both development houses are based in Ukraine (Kiev) and naturally wondered if there was any migration of designers from GSC.

I don't think it want's to be Fallout, I think it's want's to be as good as the novel from 2002.  The stories are different, I think the game will reflect that and offer something unique despite subtle similarities that come from the setting alone.

I'm a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fan and post apocalyptic is fun no matter what. Tell me you didn't like Wall-E. The guitar in the video... I'm sorry, but that just feels cool. It does remind me of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and that's a good thing. Maybe it's an Eastern Europe thing, posted this on Giantbomb's news thread, but I like the song.

Nice observation Claude...I think that music worked on me subliminally. I too love that Guitar music in STALKER.

Graphically it looks more polished than STALKER, but who knows how the gameplay is. Perhaps the Metro is like you base and you just get different assignments to go out and gather shit required for different needs of the population then return back? Sometimes it will be medicine, sometimes food, weapons or other supplies, or to retrieve survivors, radios, things, kill monster "bosses" that threaten to discover the camp and bring a ton of their kin with them, etc. Or something completely different :-P

I'm really interested in this game, mostly for the setting. It looks like a cross between Fallout, Half-Life and STALKER, I hope they polish up the PC version though.

Does anyone know if the original book is still online somewhere? In English.

It was but it's out of print now. It will be available again in January. If you cannot wait, you can rummage around online and find a translation for e-book.

OMFG that is the best Antianalising I have ever seen. man that laser is sharp...
Sorry I'm quite interested in game engines so that being utterly perfect i mean look at how the dust shimmers though is slightly and the way it's faded and the miute glow of the red light as it illuminates the gun model. It's just stunning. I wonder how the fur moves and what is with the light source producing that soft shadow . wow

@Cirdain   It is impressive. it's had four years in the making, it's natural to expect any game with a development time that long to look good.

Release date issued - March 19th  Collector Edition - confirmed.  The collectors edition includes a weapon and four additional maps, which are composed using artwork from the game.

Understandable. I picked up on this game for about two - three months ago. It just looks amazing! I really enjoy the STALKER series. And since these are the same guys who worked on some of the STALKER stuff I guess this is going to be good. If not even better.

After playing Fallout 3 for over 200 hours, I don't know if I want to dive into another wasteland or even any metros for that matter.  Maybe I'll pick up the novel if it grabs my attention later in the year, or next month.

Look at the PSU watermark on the first set of pictures. Was this game originally set to come out for the PS3?

No, it was never being developed for PS3 at any point, it started development 4 years ago on PC. Those images are some I grabbed from a Sony site that assumed it was a multi-platform title, that's all.

This game really seems like something I would like, but the silence surrounding it has had me worried.
Those review scores renew my hopes a little bit, tho I wish I could read the text that accompanies them.
