Count me out for a while. I want one, but $250 is just insane.

Nintendo Dates And Prices The Nintendo 3DS
Day 1 buy for me.. Region locking sucks, but iNis wasn't planning to release Ouendan 3 soon anyway.
Animal Crossing 3DS!!
I was only somewhat intrigued when it was revealed. Though I've never been a handheld person, so Nintendo getting me mildly aroused was quite an accomplishment.
Anyhow.
2499 SEK.
No. .....no. No. NEVER.
Just converted it and y'all gonna shit your pants right in your face.
$378.
I've also heard the games are to be priced higher.
$250 is crazy, especially when you consider how much games might cost for it, and the fact that it's still just a handheld.
I see no reason to get this till The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Kid Icarus Uprising come out but $250 was my predicted price hopefully it will go down though.
The line up is what's making me wait, nothing there that catches my interest enough to spend $250 on it yet.
" Those prices are crazy, Europe will pay 60% more than the US prices... "Japan as well (approximately). Here in Canada, they'll probably price it at $279.99 even though our dollar is so fucking close to the USD at the moment, and that plus taxes will make for more than $300 retail price.
I think it's pretty likely there is a 3DS in my March plans. Not in love with that launch day line up, but who knows. If the Wii was any indication, this could become annoying to procure, so it might be worth it to get it early.
The only thing I want to play on this is Mercenaries, don't know if I want to spend that much just so I can play that.
Weren't people super-ultra-pissed when the original PSP came out at 250? And then again when the PSP Go came out at 250. People were always saying that Sony is completely out of touch with their market, and things like that.
Now Nintendo is coming out with something with an out of the door launch price of 250, and so far I've mostly seen comments like "250 is doable" or "Day 1 buyer!" Honestly, what's the deal people? I'm thinking that it's just cool to hate on Sony for every little thing, and that's the only reason the 250$ pricetag for their portable systems was a source of outrage.
Xbox users hate on PS users for "being obsessed perverts who only play JRPGs".
Sony users hate on Xbox users for "being jock idiots who only play Modern Warfare and Madden".
Sony and Xbox users hate on Nintendo users for "being kids who will buy anything with the Nintendo brand".
Nintendo users just hate everyone else.
And that's the ciiiiircle of liiiiife.
I will be buying it as soon as I can, mainly because it look like it will be incredible and because I'm a sucker for awesome new innovation. $250 is alot of money however...
I get that $250 is just "too much money" for some people, regardless of the product...but for what you're getting, I don't see how $250 is a crazy price for a 3D handheld platform. That said, I don't intend on pre-ordering it. Especially not until I can hold one.
kind of cool, but am not going to buy it right away. Will wait for the price to decrease and such... maybe.
I think the starting line up is pretty solid. Price is steep but its just money, you only live once. Eat cheeseburgers and buy game systems. Looking forward to playing through Ocarina of Time again...
I wish Ocarina of Time was a launch title, then I'd totally be on top of this! Right, now, I'm really not sure about getting this right away. I didn't even play my DS much as it stands...
You think 250 is bad try living in Europe! We are getting abused rectally on this one and to make matters worse the region lock means I can't even import one cheaper. This is a slap in the face as I love Nintendo handheld gaming and have brought every core handheld they have released. I'm still going to get a 3DS but now I'm defiantly going to wait and I might just buy pre-owned. Only way I'm getting one day of release is if some of the retailers in the UK do the right thing and only slightly overcharge, as is the custom.
Fuck yeah Pilotwings! Also, Rayman 3D? Separate from a rabbids game? Does anyone know anything about that cause another actual rayman game would be awesome.
Not a super launch lineup. I'll wait for the first party titles like Kid Icarus and Paper Mario. But $249.99 is a great price. I believe the original price of the PSP was $249.99, and that was, well, the PSP.
The device itself is still a completely amazing piece of tech.
I have to say that I really don't go with the grain on this one. I have a DSlite and a DSi and my next DS will probably be another DSi, if I ever need one. I have absolutely zero interest in any 3D bullshit and I think that most people will agree. People may think "oh, neat!" the first time they see 3D on the device, but I would be surprised if they haven't turned off the option altogether after owning it a couple weeks.
"I think everyone referring to this as a crappy launch forgot what the launch of the original DS was like.
Ping Pals, ladies and gents. Ping Pals. "
Don't forget Feel the Magic.
" @Hailinel said:Feel the Magic was a unique brand of insane that was actually pretty fun for a launch title. Sprung, on the other hand..."I think everyone referring to this as a crappy launch forgot what the launch of the original DS was like.Don't forget Feel the Magic. "
Ping Pals, ladies and gents. Ping Pals. "
" I think everyone referring to this as a crappy launch forgot what the launch of the original DS was like.Seriously. Ping Pals, Sprung, The Urbz, barely playable Ridge Racer, etc. The only thing it had was a remixed and updated version of Mario 64... played with a D-Pad or a terrible touchscreen solution.
Ping Pals, ladies and gents. Ping Pals. "
The 3DS launch is tepid, like most launches, but it's a sight better than that unbearable drought where there was nothing notable for nearly a whole year.
Hm. $250 USD? If I can import it, maybe. The Australian prices are probably going to be insane, even though our dollar is pretty much the same value as the USD. So if I pick it up, I'll be importing it.
Having said that.... I don't think I'll be getting this on day one - because the 3DS Lite will no doubt be released one year later and it will probably be cheaper.
The advanced hardware and popularity of the DS name justifies the price (from a business perspective), but the consumer knowledge that they WILL release a refined, smaller, cheaper version of the handheld (in more colours) 1 or 2 years later means that you're probably better off waiting if you can.
EDIT: It's region locked? Disregard what I said. No sale at this price point. No sale until it comes down under 180 AUD.
