    Nosebleed

    Concept »

Never 'just' a nosebleed. Nosebleeds in video games have stories behind them, indicating symptoms of serious illness, drug abuse, the onset of mysterious psychic powers, or (in Japanese games) sexual arousal.

    Short summary describing this concept.

    Overview

A nosebleed occurs when vessels inside nostrils leak or rupture, causing blood to seep out of them.

In Japanese media and popular culture, nosebleeds are often used to depict a character (typically, though not exclusively male) who has become sexually aroused. These nosebleeds can vary in depiction, with more comedic takes resulting in hyperbolic sprays of blood. Nosebleeds may also be more subdued or realistic, such that a character is not aware of the blood until it is pointed out to them.

Nosebleeds may also be used to depict or indicate other circumstances, such as being under psychic attack.
