My brother has this. I'm not sure if it's the best, I think he just got it because it's the cheapest decent mechanical keyboard you can get.

I highly recommend the Corsair K70. It feels really nicely built, looks cool, cool backlighting, it's easy to clean, media control. Look for something with red or brown switches. Just don't get blue switches, I hated them for gaming.

Are you looking for all kinds of macro buttons and LEDs and whatnot? I would just recommend picking up a decent mechanical keyboard with Red or Brown switches.

I have this one and I would definitely recommend it for a no nonsense mechanical keyboard. I also had the TK varient but I did not use the numpad so I switched to tenkeyless.

I also went from Reds to Browns and after a short adjustment period I much prefer the Browns. Red switches are great for gaming but I do not like typing on them.

Loving my K70. I put some small red dampeners under the keycaps. Love it. Current firmware just freezes up lighting effects though when using caps lock repeatedly.. Annoying. Otherwise the keyboard is heaven. So many usedul features

Also, brown switches. Those are what you want. Tactile feedback without much resistance. Perfect balance.

If you dont care for all the features, razor keyboards are great. They have their own switches which are comparable to cherrymx but honestly, i kinda like razors green switches(comparable to brown) better than cherrymx browns.

I use a Corsair Vengence K70 and it works great. It's a mechanical keyboard so the keys have a good clackity response to them. They light up with different settings, too. I'd easily say it was the best peripheral I've ever bought.

@beeemugs: Cherry blue switches are the loudest switch you can get. If you don't like the noise of typing (MX blue is basicly keyboard porn for me), try the MX brown version.

Continuing the Corsair echo chamber, have been using a K90 for a year and a bit a love it. I like the red switches, smooth action without the click-clack and great for gaming. If you're doing plenty of typing though i would go with browns or blues.

Blues are basically browns, with added noise for people that want noise. And theres noise already with any mechanical board you get. My dampeners don't even remove the noise, they just well.. Dampen so its not as.. Peircing i guess.

i think in a lot of cases most keyboards will work as needed. its more about show off then other things. but i haved used the logitech g 15 version 2 keyboard for ages. cant remember when it came out but i think it was 2007 and im only thinking about replacing it now since i broke one of the pegs off (the ones you fould out to rise the keyboard up) when i moved 2 weeks ago. but its nifty it has a display to show the time or a game related things especially for rpgs and so on and the lcd display can be modded really easily with programs to do other shit. if thats what you want to do. it also has a ton of possible shortcut keys (8 keys with 3 modifiers making a total of 24 keys) but i only used 3 keys. one for opening up steam one for my computer and one for my browser.
so basically what im saying is what i have seen in the g series looks fine. but there are proberly a shit ton of other things out there just as good

I would wait on getting a keyboard. A lot of companies are coming out with RGB mechanical keyboards. Right now there are three but there's at least three more that will be out in the next year.

I think these keyboards are very useful, you can control the color of each key allowing you to easily setup schemes for different programs.

I'm also involved in working with different manufacturers on a unified library to allow game developers to take advantage of these keyboards. For example, a music game that does effects on your keyboard. It's currently used in Pixel: ru² (which is a game I've been working on with my partner). You can see a video of the game controlling a RGB keyboard at PAX South here:

We'll also have it setup at PAX East (booth #9165) with a lot more effects and are working with other game developers to add support to more games.

I've owned a razer blackwidow ultimate for a few years now and no complaints. Kickass keyboard.

I am quite fond of my Razer Blackwidow ultimate, the thing with different mechanical keyboards is that they all feel different, I tried the logitech, and the corsair, and decided the razers feel was the best for me, if you have a Bestbuy nearby, I definitely recommend going there to test out their displays.

i just ordered a Nappoo Choc Mini, it'll be in on Tuesday so i can't say if it's any good and it's also my first mechanical keyboard so i have no frame of reference, but the media keys right over the WASD is what sold it for me.

First of all, go mechanical, you will not regret it.

Secondly, figure out what switches you want in your keyboard, look up the different types of switches, see what the differences are, find the colour that suits you.

Lastly, go on Newegg, Amazon, wherever, look up reviews for keyboards in the price range you are looking at with the switches you want in them.

There really is no universal "best" keyboard for gaming, keyboards are incredibly personal, and you need to find the one that suits you.

I use a Logitech G510 from back before mechanical keyboards were a thing again. I like it, has programmable keys that are pretty useful for me and the screen is nice. I want to get the Razer one with a touch screen but not for 250$

I have the Logitech G110. It's not a mechanical keyboard though, so if that's something you really want, you should look elsewhere. I got it, because I really like the softer touch keys. Also, mechanical keyboards are pretty notorious for being rather loud. This one makes very little sound comparably. This was important to me when I was looking, but if the noise isn't an issue for you, then mechanical is probably the way to go.

I've been using a Steelseries 6Gv2 for the last year or two and I've been very happy with it. The keys aren't illuminated, which was a bit of a bummer, but it's super sturdy and doesn't have any extra function buttons, which is a plus for me.

Does Razer deathstalker essential good or not? I read several online reviews most of them are purely negative, there is someone complaining about its space bar. its hard to press and require to hit the center of the key. there is also someone complaining regarding its quality. I really love its look but there are some says that its just a look but it doesnt give what the user deserve to have. to be added its synapse 2.0 is like a trash or garbage due to its buggy condition and other more. Is there other keyboard that cost cheaper but has great quality.

I would recommend a mechanical keyboard not made by any of the gaming companies. There really is very little that they add (maybe macro keys if you like that)
But you do get ugly designs leds that have no business being on a keyboard.
Then again that is my opinion and that might be something you are after.

Like leopold, wasd keyboard, the more barebones ducky keyboards.
And of the real gaming keyboard I would recommend the first tenkyless thing coolermaster put out. (still somewhat ugly font and stuff but)

I needed a smaller mech keyboard a few weeks ago and the duders here pointed me in the direction of the Cooler Master Storm Quickfire TK (already mentioned in dispatches in the thread) and I've been loving it so far. Great price, well made and MX Brown switches which are my favourite.

If I didn't have space problems on my desk though I'd still be rocking my Corsair K70 (also mentioned here). Best keyboard I've ever owned and one that's coming out of retirement whenever I finally get a new desk.

I've always liked Logitechs keyboards (and mice, and headsets), never actually bought a 'Gaming' keyboard per se, but they seem to have a pretty wide selection.

Honestly though. In my experience the best hardware is the one that feels best to you. I used to be a major Logitech fanboy but in recent years the quality of their products has been declining which made me gravitate towards other companies.

On any case, my buddy has Steelseries and he swears by it.

Also have one, great keyboards. They're rather clicky so prepare for people on skype to comment and asking if you're on a typewriter.

I prefer keyboard with lesser noise every time I press something, I dont ask for 0% noise. hehe

Personally I find reds just a bit soft and blacks too far in the other direction. Browns are the perfect middle ground ... for me.

You can but a Cherry sampler board to give you an idea of what the switches feel like:

Nothing beats trying a full set for a few hours though.

Personally I am on the other end of the spectrum, I love a loud clicky keyboard <3

to me, any keyboard that is wide enough works well, hate laptop computers with tiny keyboards!!!

I have a keyboard with Cherry Blues at my office, which I enjoy using. But I made sure to ask the people sitting near me if it would bother them, beforehand (and then again after it showed up and they heard the actual clicks). Luckily, my co-workers are bothered by external noise a lot less than I am, because I don't think I would be able to stand this clickity-clack nonsense if someone else was using this thing.

I bought a Corsair K70 with brown switches for a pretty reasonable price a while back. Best keyboard I've ever invested in.

Personally I don't like gaming keyboards, the keys are too small and crammed together in order to try to fit all the crap on there that makes them "cool".

I tried the Steel Series Merc Stealth, it was like $40 on Woot one day, and ended up hating it.

I'm still using the keyboard that came with my Asus PC that I bought like 6 years ago. I can't find a link to it itself but this logitech keyboard looks similar on the keys and it doesn't take batteries!
