The PC (Personal Computer) is a highly configurable and upgradable gaming platform that, among home systems, sports the widest variety of control methods, largest library of games, and cutting edge graphics and sound capabilities.
I'd definitely recommend half-life 2 and related games (the episodes, portal, TF2). Not only are these great games in their own right, they are a platform for great mods.
If you want to be a Real PC Gamer™ you've got to try Dwarf Fortress at least once. :P
Also, be sure to get Mount&Blade. Another great game and platform for mods. And speaking of a platform for mods, Rome: Total War has some great mods, and Empire: Total War is likely to get some in the future.
EDIT: If you're new to using a keyboard to do stuff, play single player shooters for a little while first, and start out with TF2 for multiplayer. TF2s really accessible for most people.

Oh man, how could I forget Dwarf Fortress, high five for someone actually knowing about it!
Also. If you haven't played the following games, just go and get them:
1- The Original Half-Life 2- Diablo II 3- CoD1, CoD2 (If you haven't played the second one on X360) 4- Deus Ex 5- Fallout 2, it's old and you won't like it. you can't get it either. 6- And Hitman 2 would be a good deal.
