A boss fight is a culminating challenge that pits the player against one or more enemies representing a greater threat and/or difficulty than those previously faced. These scenarios typically feature unique antagonists.

A destructible environment means the player has the ability to destroy his/her surroundings. This allows players to use the environment to their advantage.
Dust is a particle effect that usually occurs when an object or character impacts/rubs/scrapes along another object, character, or surface, creating a dust effect.

Games which allow players to interact with others over the internet.
Various effects using "particles" (billboard/sprite planes or full models).
Physics play an important part in this game in solving puzzles and/or combat. Notable examples include the Gravity Gun from Half-Life 2, and the Force Powers from Star Wars: Force Unleashed.
A narrative that takes an unexpected turn. Commonly, plot twists come in the form of revealing that the player character is not actually who they thought.
Protagonists that have gravity defying hair styles and often appropriately spikey personalities.
Often used to show their dominance over those tiny creatures called insects, and sometimes just for fun!
Not simply a plot twist, a Tomato Surprise is a narrative trope where a momentous plot detail, which is already known by the principle character(s), is kept from the audience until a critical point in the story. It is the opposite of Dramatic Irony, which is where the viewer knows something the characters do not.
