If BC is a big enough issue for you to not buy a PS3, then obviously you don't want to play PS3 games enough anyway and should just buy a PS2.

Maybe I might purchase this, never really liked consoles but some of the PS3's Exclusives look damn cool :)

That thing is so ugly, I hope they continue with the current PS3 models.

Microsoft still hasn't convinced me that the 360's FIRST console design has the kinks worked out of it. Maybe a redesign is what they really need to get the RRoDs gone once and for all. 

As for the PS3 Slim... I want a PS3, but my PS2 is dying and I have a ton of games for it that I still want to play. I'd really like to replace it with a nice, shiny new B/C PS3...  I made a pledge last week that if Sony announced a PS3 for $299 that was B/C, I'd preorder it on the spot... It's really the only thing stopping me at this point. Oh well. Maybe they will release some later update, but until they do, my 360 will suffice...

Now I'm pissed I spent like 500 on a 40 gig a year and a half ago. I could've waited a year and a half considering I hardly use it.

Now that Sony has developed an awesome exclusive line up for the PS3, and dropped the price to $299, picking one up is a no brainer.

A price drop is welcomed in my circle, so this is all good news.  Still no b/c, but maybe someday that will be fixed via a software download.  I heard Sony patented a way to emulate the PS2 on PS3 hardware a while ago.

Im going to wait to pass judgement on the new look until I get my hands on some more pictures. Matte works on some things. I love the matte finish on the DSi. One thing is for certian though, I will have a PS3 sometime this year.

A great step forward for Sony, I am interested to see how this will affect the market this holiday season.

I think now is the time that I get myself a PS3.

It's great that Sony is finally listening, but c'mon, that thing looks like a 2001 DVD player :\

Man, that thing looks ugly.  Then again I always thought that about the PS2 slim.  I like the fatties.

I'm sorry if you don't feel that backwards compatibility is important but it is to me so don't tell people to "stop bitching about it". 
 
I'm happy for sony and I hope this helps them out in the long run but it's a pain in the ass to hook up my ps2 when I want to go back and play a ps2 game. I only have so much space to hook up old consoles. If other systems weren't backwards compatible I wouldn't even bother with thinking about it but that isn't the case so there is little excuse for the ps3 not to be.

Anyone else think that design looks a bit 70's?

 lot of people hating a lot on the design.  Looks nice to me.  Very simplistic.  Much prettier than the current model.  I give the designers an A+....yea!  Now I want one but I already have a 60GB backward compatible PS3...humm what to do what to do.
