Okay, last night marked the 3rd time in the last few weeks the Xbox live has had issues. Then I check my gamertag today (which isn't there), shoot over to Major Nelson's website and, low and behold "the team is aware of the issues." Major, you seem like a pretty good guy, and by all accounts you are, but if I see that quote one more time in 2008 I'm going to send my fist through my computer screen.
I love the NXE, everything about it is better than that clunky god-awful blade setup, and I really like my 360 for the most part. Yet, Live is supposed to be the main reason for owning a 360. It's supposed to be the creme de la creme of console online. Than why is it that I'm paying $50/year for this service that is down on a consistent basis? Because my friends are too stubborn to see the light and buy PS3's, that's why.
Yep, that's right, PSN is working just fine. In fact, PSN is NEVER down: certain game servers have issues now and then (see last months Socom and LittleBigPlanet's releases), but PSN as a whole is only ever down for maintenance. This is where Sony's online service method is superior than Microsofts: it's already catching up in functionality, it's free, and a helluva lot more reliable.

PSN is better then Xbox Live
I agree with you. I never have problems with GTA IV or MGS4 online and so far I haven't had any with Resistance 2
Than the correct term here should of been "PSN has been more reliable than live recently", instead of its just 'better', because by your entire post you aren't in any way saying its better, or arguing that at all. I've had both psn and live go down for me on and off since I got both of them, neither of them are perfect, deal with it.

Shut the fuck up with your consolewar flamebait you hoser.

PSN was announced quite recently as having almost as many users as LIVE. There is no feature that LIVE has that warrants its price tag. PSN is almost exactly the same in every feature except for having cross game invites ( Which you can technically do now just by pressing the PS button) and having cross game parties...Which begs the question, why would you want a cross game party? Also, PSN's video store is far better then the LIVE market because LIVE lacks all Columbia Tristar Sony movies along with MGM and so on... So does one feature and supposed better service warrant the $50 price tag? I think not. The only reason I even use LIVE is because ONE of my closer friends only has a 360 and even he is usually disappointed with the service.
"LiquidPrince is the new Sentry."
Well, I've been around longer then Sentry first of all, and second of all don't resort to insults just because you can't come up with an informed and or proper answer to rebut with... If you disagree, tell me why, otherwise keep your useless comments to yourself. I would think a would be moderator would know not to troll.
If I wasn't clear enough, I was calling you a Sony Fanboy. It's not really an insult, it "just is". It's pretty obvious dude. (and no, you haven't been around longer than Sentry. Unfortunately for you, he's gone, and now you are Giant Bomb's resident Sony fanboy. It's ok, it's nothing to be ashamed of)
Being a moderator doesn't mean I can't speak my mind. Deal with it.
Xbox Live is technically better, but the monthly fee takes some of the glimmer away. With PSN's free online play (and the last couple of updates), I'd say they are now just about equal -- all things considered.
In the end, you do get what you pay for. I expect more from MS, because they charge me for the service. Likewise, I expect less from Sony because they charge me nothing.

Anyways, I have preferences towards Sony, but I don't knock on the other systems without reason. I say what I think. And as a moderator you are supposed to show some restraint or something. I do believe that your post was indeed intended to be an insult because no one calls someone else a fanboy in a good way...

Speaking of which, what happened to Sentry? He never responds to my messages on PSN. Did he just leave, or what?
"LiquidPrince said:And as a moderator you are supposed to show some restraint or something.Oh believe me, this is me showing restraint."
So basically if you weren't a moderator, you would be blazing about calling everyone who has a differing opinion then you a fanboy?

No, I'd rather not. Every thread I post in that relates to PS3 vs 360, MB shows up to call me a fanboy or dispute something with me for no reason. I merely asked him a question.

To be fair, this is only the second time I've ever called you out for being a fanboy, it's hardly "every thread you post in that relates to PS3 vs 360".
Because he jumps at every post that even in a nicely comparing way, criticizes sony in any way possible, basically ranting and raving any way possible to make it seem untrue, or then brings up MS or the 360 and tries to turn the topic around. Just a guess.
Both consoles aren't perfect, both have problems. Both services aren't perfect, both have problems, both could be improved, but since the NXE, psn is way further behind now in terms of the overall features they have. As far as just the basis of what the platforms are, the stores on each one, and just connecting and playing, its more side and side, but live is still easier, even if I don't think its worth paying for. That, is a fact, that anyone can see easily, regardless of just preference.

I only recall posting in about two threads based on that subject matter anyways. Whatever, I'm dropping it now, so it's in the past... For now...
I love my ps3 but don't bullshit yourself Live is a better service. End of discussion. My only gripe is that I feel it to be overpriced specially since I can have better gaming services on my pc for free. So its not so much wether Live is better or not its more of a is live worth 50 dollars a year?
Its not accurate, even when you get a link. XBL users only count active gold users, PSN counts anyone who has ever signed up for it, anywhere, and anyone can get a free account. They also never end, they are always considered users, on top of the fact that since PSN doesn't have the option for people to change their tag to something different, there are countless amounts of people who have just made second or third accounts because they wanted to change their tag.
XBL said it has around 14 million "active" users at all time, PSN has around 8 ish million I believe(in terms of actually being online and playing) so no information on this subject would actually be correct regardless.
"PSN was announced quite recently as having almost as many users as LIVE. There is no feature that LIVE has that warrants its price tag. The only reason I even use LIVE is because ONE of my closer friends only has a 360 and even he is usually disappointed with the service."There are several features about Live that make it superior to the Playstation Network. Here is a nice bullet-pointed list for you:
- Unified networks mean a game will almost never be taken offline if it uses Microsoft's basic framework. Games can have dedicated servers (and players can host them) but they are not forced (like Sony) so a game can always have a potential community.
- "Why would you want a cross game party?" To socialize, to be a bit more organized and unified with a clan who might not be all on the same game at the same time, to interact with people. Anyone who doubts that this is a great feature (who also considers themselves a social person) obviously hasn't used it. It's brilliant.
- Cross game invites... yeah. The fact that Sony hasn't even bothered trying (or can't) make those work yet is telling, no?
- Saying the PS3's video store is better is purely subjective. Excluding Columbia doesn't mean that Live's store is worse, and the Live store has nothing to do with the Video store. That point is irrelevant.
Overall, Live is definitely more polished and unified than the PSN will ever be this gen. That isn't to say I don't respect the PSN- features that it possesses are desirable. It just isn't nearly as close in quality to Xbox Live as people make it out to be. And yes, I have used both frequently.
LIquidPrince, you're totally missing the point.
"Sony has announced 14 million users have registered on PlayStation Network." Of course they've registered...it's free. I have my PS3 connected to the net, and I have registered on PSN, and I haven't played an online game on it in months. See what I'm getting at? More information is needed, you can't just go around throwing those numbers out like they are somehow meaningful.
If we're going to play that game, then we need to take the total number of Xbox 360's worldwide that are connected to the net, regardless of their Gold or Silver subscription status. I think Microsoft announced at one point that there were over 25 million Xbox 360's connected to Live...I think out of those, 10 million were paying Gold subscribers. That's a little more reliable data, Sony's seems purposefully vague.
"Okay, last night marked the 3rd time in the last few weeks the Xbox live has had issues. You listed problems with Xbox Live, you didn't explain why PSN is better. And I've never had any of those problems.

- Microsoft's own network is constantly failing...
- Makes sense I guess.
- There us cross game invites... Just push the PS button and message your friend to get his ass onto LBP...
- Majority of the blockbuster movies come from Sony owned companies and subsidiaries... Microsoft does not own it's own movie company so it can't harm Sony's sales, but 360 missing out on Tristar and MGM movies is huge... That's Quantum of Solace and Hancock and Hellboy II just from this summer that NETFLIX will not be getting.
"LIquidPrince, you're totally missing the point. The same article mentions that there is an estimate of at LEAST 8.5 active users using the online for gaming and the likes, not just registered.

Let us not forget that it took about a year and a half to get many features on the PSN that are currently on there.
However, I do like both the PSN and Live for different reasons. I don't mind the price tag of XBL, I think many people exaggerate the amount that it costs each year, they act like it's really expensive when it's less money than the cost of one game. (Especially when I can get 13 months for $40 off Amazon).

Exactly. An estimate.
