So i know to most hardcore gamers the camera seems pointless and its just another gimmick to others it seems like a tool that can be used in some unique ways. Since sony hasn't been pushing their camera like microsoft very little is known but everybody at the ps4 event is saying that it actually has a lot of cool features such as facial recognition and voice commands. So thats all i really wanted to share, Oh and how many of you are planning on going to a midnight launch? I wasn't going to go but I'm honestly just so impatient to get try this console already.

PS Eye is a pretty good camera too, i use it on my PC as webcam and mic.

There's not a single piece of buzz about it but it's got head-tracking in War Thunder, lean-tracking in Battlefield 4, facial expression capturing in Knack, voice commands without having to use that earbud-headset, gamer pictures for various games, and more than enough to get that dancing game going. Sony haven't pushed it at the slightest outside of the PlayRoom, MS would have made a few gigabytes of PR material by what little we know about it today.

In addition, Sony have a lot of patents and regular advances in augmented reality. Might be a hint of that in PlayRoom, a next level of AR that doesn't require cards and tracks just about perfectly. Going to get it when my tight budget allows me to because I know what PS2 Eyetoy and forward were capable of. PS2 Eyetoy would have made Steel Battalion Kinect 100% playable and working on every input (except maybe depth?), not a joke but a sad state of reality.

Yeah they've always downplayed their camera hardware and software, but from what I've heard its always been about on par with Microsoft. Different marketing priorities I guess.

Cool tech is meaningless unless its utilized properly. Unless Sony builds in meaningful uses for the camera in the UI or to allow streamers to film themselves then its never going to be widely adopted. There may be a stray game here and there that has a nice gimmick but Sony doesn't look to be pushing the camera as aggressively as Microsoft. I'm not planning to buy and XO anytime soon, but even I have to admit some of the Kinect/UI demo stuff seems cool.

I'm glad it's good. I'm also glad it isn't in the box so I can pick it up whenever I feel like I need it.
