Seems reasonable to me.

PlayStation Vita is Sony's second handheld gaming device.
$599 US dollars?
If they plan on competing with 3DS and iPad then they would be crazy for go over $400. I'm hoping $350. Over $400 scares me.
" @LordXavierBritish: But what market is there for a handheld that costs more than a console? I know Sony has made mistakes before, but nobody would actually price something that high. "Nintendo already did.
Considering that ps3 cost $300, tack on a OLED touch screen, motion controls, 3g, and two cameras you've one expensive handheld.
This - price it competitively with the 3DS and they'll steal a huge slice of the market. The iphone has already stolen Nintendo's casual market share - if anything, they'll likely be vying for the hardcore (although I'm sure a good portion of the DS userbase will upgrade to the 3DS and the 3D is definitely a casual friendly gimmick)." they need to go 300 or even 250 and just take whatever profit hit they get. "
Otherwise it'll likely be a repeat of the whole DS/PSP debacle...
I'd pay some good money if this thing as running Honeycomb. I'd gladly trade 5" off my screen for real buttons and real games.
I wouldn't be surprised if they price it that high. Sony has been all over the place recently. But anything more than $300 is a deal breaker for me.
" They wouldn't dare go any higher than $400 on a portable. They wont realise this until the product is on the shelves though. That they have attached to many bells and whsitles and thus made a device to exspensive to sell at a competitive price. So, they'll chop out some feature that folks wouldn't really use anyway. Like backwards compatibility with the PSP.
That would just be retarded.
"
But you wont care because of two, very special, words:
OH and the Other OS support. That looks kinda neat.
After the PSP Go, I don't think Sony will make the mistake of pricing themselves out of the market..
But at the same time, I can't see the thing being around the same price point as the 3DS.
Can't even hazard a guess at what it'll cost.
cant someone somewhere do a rough cost breakdown baised on the hardware specs?
300 sounds ok for me. 350 is really pushing it and if its 400 it might aswell be 599 all over again.
I think Ill wait for the psp2-2000 just to be safe. like most hardware now adays there is going to be some stupid problem that didnt show up in QA tests so ill wait for them to work out any kinks.
" @scarace360 said:YOUR LOSING MONEY IF YOU DONT BUY IT!" 9000$ and it comes with a ps3. "WHAT A DEAL!!!!!!! "
ok i need to get this straight :
is the PSP a FUN PORTABLE or not ?? from the comments i read here and there, its supposed to be real boring and trying too hard ? so the NGP will be just as boring, yeah ?
" They wouldn't dare go any higher than $400 on a portable.I so lol'ed at that.
That would just be retarded.

It's not that crazy a number, people pay $400+ for unlocked smartphones. And this thing is currently the most powerful mobile device announced, that includes all the tablets and shit at CES this year. I fully expect it to be $499-$799 in multiple configurations, on different carriers and with varying internal storage maybe 16-64GB +some kind of flash.
They will have a payment plan where you can sign over your first born child to them to work in their factories.
During a recent interview with Japanese economic website Toyo Keizai, ever-charming Ken Kutaragi had this to say about Sony's goal for the PSP2: "for consumers to think to themselves 'I will have more children to buy one'. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else." *

" I'm not even thinking about it until we see some games. "Engadget has some shaky videos of gameplay. Scroll to the bottom.

Thats the price they need to be at, but I don't think it's possible with this kind of hardware. Currently all you can compare it with are dual core 4inch smartphones that are going for like $599 unlocked later this year. This is why I think it'll be hard for Sony to sell these things, it's easy for people to justify paying that much for a phone because you always need it and have it with you. Sony will subsidize the price a little...but I don't think they can feasibly sell it for 300." $300 is the highest they could go without completely screwing themselves over, if they want to do well it needs to cost $250 or less (and have price parity across all regions, cough).
They can't price it that high after all the flak they got for pricing the PS3 that much, and because the 3DS costs so much less than that.
" Is it bad that I expect this to fail just like the PSP? "I think it will too...despite how much I like the device, I don't think it can compete. I don't think this is the portable that the masses want, Nintendo has a vice grip on the casual crowd and that will carry over to the 3DS.
Below quote related to price. Also they are on record saying that they will be selling these at a loss. I wound expect the price being $299 to $399 depending on the packages (pack-ins) they put together.
"I can't put a ballpark on it in terms of figures, but what I would say is that we will shoot for an affordable price that's appropriate for the handheld gaming space," Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss Andrew House told Eurogamer in Tokyo this morning.
