A good game that is thirsty for change.
Nintendo and Gamefreak announced that they'are remaking their hit Gameboy RPG Pokemon Silver/Gold in late 2007, since then the remakes have been the most anticipated handheld game since the re-release of ChronoTrigger also released in late 2007.
Pokemon Silver (I'm going to shorten abbreviate it to just Silver here on out for the sake of time) has all the original content, Pokemon and of course music that still stands the test of time ten after it was introduced. Soulsilver also introduces some more current trends from Diamond/Pearl such as another trainer of the opposite gender to you as a childhood friend, named Lyra from a male point of view. Soulsilver drops the Pokeapp that was introduced in Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. Memory recalls the Pokeapp being a terrible touch screen watch taking up your bottom screen, the thing served no good purpose.
The main drawbacks to Soulsilver in not that it makes mistakes in the game, it's the lack on innovation. Pokemon Gameboy games have been around almost as long as I have, Gamefreak is stubborn in a few cases. Pokemon's turn-based battles have not changed since 1995 and thats the problem, the DS is pretty powerful for a handheld going into 3D battle sequences is not out of the realm of possibility. In a world with new and innovating game IP's it's a good uestion way Pokemon still stays the game. Imagine a Pokemon MMO on the DS, why hasn't that happened yet? They'are making a LEGO MMO, why not Pokemon?
Don't get me wrong this new generation of Pokemon games are a great addition to the Pokemon franchise, lack of innovation and new concepts bring it just shy of video game Nirvana. I intrested to here what gamefreak is going to do for the new wave of Pokemon RPG's, maybe they go 3D, maybe they still stay as stubborn as they are today. Even with it's lack of new features Soulsilver is most have for anyone with a DS. Ohh, and you hear the water.
