Well shit. The long rumored "Pokken Fighters" was finally officially revealed this morning. It's an arcade game developed by Bandai Namco and is slated to hit Japanese arcades next year. Apparently a console release is possible after that. I'll update this thread with videos and pics as they become available.

Edit: Looked at the trailer again, and am I the only one who found it weird that a wrestler looking pokemon like Machamp acts like a striker but not a grappler?

A Pokemon fighting game could be interesting. Hopefully it has a fairly robust roster of Pokemon although I guess it could be fighting type only.

It'll be released on Nintendo's next console I think. 2016 is the earliest it could come out on consoles and the Wii U is definitely going to be discontinued by then.

That would be a hella short console cycle. Though it's Nintendo...if they get a good gimmick, I'm sure they'll roll on with a new console. Cuz the Wii U's biggist problem is that it lacks innovation from its competitors.

This has to be a Tag fighting game right? It would be crazy not to be, but who knows.

Now imagine this, without the stiff, limiting, fighting game design, add more RPG, an open world and you have the game we've been waiting for since 1996.

Feel the same way about this that @hailinel feels about Hyrule Warriors.

I am extremely excited about the direction this industry is going with doing left-field shit with pre-established franchises.

If this doesn't interest you that's cool, but don't be cynical about it! Even if I don't end up enjoying this I hope it (and Hyrule Warriors) encourages more companies to do unexpected stuff with their sacred cows.

I tell ya I still don't have much interest in owning a WiiU but the argument is becoming more and more strong to own one. Granted this is only arcades right now but like...c'mon there will be a WiiU version if not Nintendo is insane.

Nope, only three (four if you count the unfinished original). The last Stadium game was Pokemon Battle Revolution in 2007 and nobody liked it. The Stadium games were awful. They weren't fighting games at all. Just the same old turn based "Fighting" from the main series games. It works great in those games but not on consoles.

@i_stay_puft, @crimsonavenger: I definitely bungled what I wanted to say, which was - to really see Pokemon in three dees. No, not RealD, and not Oculus either, but in a 3D world, moving on a 3D plane. This is just 3D models on a 2D plane. Compare Naruto (3D fighting game) to Ultra Street Fighter 4 ("2D" fighting game).

My dream (and the dream of many I gather) is a GTA-style Pokemon game where Pokemon battle in... uh.. 3D

Pokemon Fighting in a fully 3D Environment? Now that would be cool. Sadly that's too creative for the franchise. Game Freak would probably never allow it. Nintendo might and Creatures probably but Game Freak? No way.
