Let us give you a clue: The performance doesn't scale, that's why "many-computers" both are a scythe and a saw - not because there isn't enough computational power.

If you believe that then you truly have lived under a rock. And fyi, MS Azure isn't a joke. Utilizing someone-elses-computer-that's-much-more-specced-than-you'll-ever be™ (or "Cloud") is something that's being used plenty already, for instance Eve Online.

The new flight simulator will use this as well.
