SSJ is shorthand for the original translation of "Super Saiyajin" (which was shortened to just "Saiyan" in English so only the dorkiest of dorks shorten it to SSJ instead of SS).
Actually most people who use SSJ do so to either avoid making it sound like a boat, or more importantly to avoid the whole nazi thing. I abbreviate to SSJ but any time I actually type out the name I say Super Saiyan.
What do you have against Vinny? He was the biggest DBZ fan on the staff for the longest time before Dan showed up. He may not be an expert but at least he would make a nice counterpoint. Even if he doesn't know the answer he is good at fooling Dan into believing what ever he says. Every content on this site is better with Vinny in it IMHO.
@puchiko: I think you're regarding Vinny as a much bigger dbz expert than he actually is. He also doesn't have to be in every piece of content, and I appreciate the fresher take Dan and Jeff have.
I found it really annoying how after Dan explicitly asked Vinny not to spoil stuff on the Beastcast he kept spoiling things to varying degrees. He just said he'd watched the first three episodes Vinny, you don't need to start talking about the formula each arc falls into, or the story arc certain characters take over time, or talking about specific techniques not introduced until way later in the series.
I do find it interesting that we see Frieza so much sooner in Kai than we do in the original cut. I know it's supposed to hew closer to the manga so it's interesting that this existential threat that's far beyond even the Saiyans coming to Earth is out there too.
The Bardock/Freeza stuff at the start isn't in the manga, it's an interesting choice on Kai's part to make everything up to the end of the Freeza arc feel even more like one connected storyline. The manga (in Japan) was never split up into Dragon Ball and DBZ, it was all one ongoing series, so Kai is essentially starting in the middle of the manga and wouldn't necessarily make for the best starting episode.
Why do they have Diamond Dogs markings on the Mother Base ruins? I thought the setup for this game was people got sucked through a portal after Skullface destroyed Mother Base at the end of Ground Zeroes when Big Boss was still leading MSF. How does anyone in this game know about Diamond Dogs?
Because this game is the big publisher equivalent of an asset flip. People have done comparison videos of the footage they showed back at TGS and it's literally the Afghanistan map again but with some minor tweaks to buildings.
Whenever those awful zombie missions popped up in MGSV I definitely thought "Man I wish the whole game was against these enemies and also there were shitty shoehorned crafting mechanics." Recycling as much content as you can from MGSV is not a good look for your first post-Kojima Metal Gear game.
If you're going to bring an old game to a much more powerful platform either make it 60 fps or don't do it at all.
Usually I'd be 100% with you but I bet that facial capture footage was never even recorded above 30 fps in the first place. Would be really jarring for people to move around at 60hz while their faces animate at half of that.
