I'm having Shenmue ER flashbacks when they start ignoring the game they are playing and start talking about movies and other games in the middle of a story scene. Does it drive any one else bat shit crazy?
This kind of thing drives me crazy but I haven't noticed it too often in this playthrough, and I feel like when they do it doesn't last too long. It's why I can't watch YouTubers like the super best friends, they just use video games as a venue for an unrelated podcast instead of actually commenting on things that are happening.
I would definitely advocate for finishing the story at this point. The game will give you a very clear sign to prepare before going to do the final segments of the game, and at that point you should go to the drugstore (near the middle of the map, I think up and to the right of the shrine) and load up on health items. The drugstore specifically has better health drinks than any other store in Kamurocho.
I just want Dan to know that as someone who really enjoys the combat in these games I've never enjoyed the fights against the masters. Actual boss fights are fun, but the masters are always just super cheap and way too drawn out, often only giving you a window to get a single hit in before you have to block another ten string attack. They're just things you just have to suffer through to learn some new moves unfortunately.
Dan's getting pretty good at the combat! The one tip/reminder I'd give him this episode is that the bat can block knives, so it would've been a decent choice for the Nishitani fight. Nice to see him starting to get the hang of dodging though, it's an essential part of the combat in these games.
If you guys get serious about going through the real estate stuff with Kiryu I'd recommend finding a map online that just labels all the buyable properties. I suspect Alex is right and that the signs in the world have the names written on them, leaving anyone who doesn't know Japanese to just wander the streets pushing up against the wall like you're looking for secret rooms in Doom.
I watched a couple youtube clips after this to try and make sense out of that ending reel, and I think the game uses a bunch of those scenes to put together different endings. An ending I saw on YouTube showed the scene where Michael hits the nurse with the hammer, and it was followed up with the scene of her in bed as the daughter.
I could easily see Lee lying and that the body double girl hasn't done anything wrong; and that she just unfortunately looks a lot like Makoto.
Yeah, watching that cutscene for the second time that's what I took away from that scene, especially considering Sagawa did the same thing about Makoto herself in order to make Majima feel okay about killing her. It's the same exact situation again and Majima realizes as much.
Dan might pick up on the fighting system if he wasn't having to relearn it every single episode. I wouldn't retain anything either if I was getting like an hour with the combat system a week.
