I guess it's sunk cost. No need to torture myself over what are effectively phantasms.

My Elder Scrolls Experiences

Games listed in order, with how much I've actually completed. If I've not even started them, I don't mention them (so yeah, short list).

List items

  • I think I got to the entrance of the first plot dungeon, but never bothered to go through it all. I'd progressed, just through random dungeon exploration and Mage Guild and Fighter's Guild quests, to the point where I had pretty much a full set of daedric armor with daedric warhammer, plenty of magic items, and enough gold to choke a sea monster.

  • The closest I ever came to beating an Elder Scrolls game was in Morrowind. I actually got to the end, but didn't have the ability to beat it because I'd sorta skipped ahead of the the plot progression. Instadeath when I tried to backtrack a bit. I gave up at that point, especially after I saw that Youtube speed run that cuts down the main plot mission progression to a few minutes of high jumping. I have started new characters in this game a TON, though, and each time I took a different route, a different tack, found tons of different things, and pretty much had the same character each time (Argonian, heavy blunt weapon, good list of aid spells, tons of components and items I never use). Really a revelation after some of the disappointments of Daggerfall, but strangely enough I missed the size of the old dungeons. *Update: I have now beaten the main quest in this and its expansions. Well worth it, although it was punishing as the errors and broken quests increased.

  • Played a lot of this, got further in the plot than in Daggerfall, already looking for the second piece to the Staff of Chaos. Character's doing well (has a sword instead of a hammer and is a lot more on the spellcaster side of things, but this is in large part due to my stumbling through the character class system and not knowing about the specifics of each of the classes). Despite the lack of a guild system, I love its flexibility.

  • I've made it past the embassy. Will fill in more details later, but it was damned fun to see the Labyrinthian represented in this game!! :)
