Of course it depends on the capture/sensor tech whether or not you'll suddenly spaz out when it can't figure out where your arms are.  It's actually got the potential to be really neat, at least as a niche thing.  Even like, instructional tutors for stuff.  Which would blow my damn mind.

I would rather just go to a club, get drunk and dance like a fool.  I don't need to be spending money on hardware and a new game to do it.  I just don't get motion gaming.  My Master System gets played more in my house than my Wii so Kinect isn't really worth it for me.

I still don't really get Dance Central.  If you want to dance can't you just dance?  In videos people who aren't even playing are having fun dancing.
If i just played a DVD or a YouTube video of some dance and everyone tried to mimic it, it seems like that would be the same thing - except free.  So the only difference I can think a game brings is the scoring system that no one seems to be paying any attention to and, again, people who are not even playing are 'playing' and look like they are having just as much fun.

Nothing I read really sets it apart.  All I gather from this Dance Central buzz is that people secretly like to dance and just want an excuse.  Get over it and save the money.

Don't be obtuse and pretend that everyone shares the same motivating factors.

Some people are "in it" for recognizable achievement. Some just enjoy a feeling of progression. Others are just in for the ride. Some people are just afraid of screwing up and like the handholding of scoring to tell them that they're doing it right.

Fact of the matter is that many many more people enjoy guitar hero and rock band because they can have tangible success within 5 minutes. As opposed to practicing several hours a day for months and still sucking at guitar.  I like both the game and the guitar. It is obvious to anyone who's played both, that they are different. I like to dance too, but I like DDR too, and I expect to enjoy Dance Central. Karate schools didn't always have belt systems. They added it to reaffirm that the student has learned something, which leads the student to keep it up until they've made true accomplishments.

A more simple way to put it. If schools stopped giving out grades, do you really believe everyone would continue to put as much effort into it? Some will slack off. Others will quit and learn on their own. Whether or not the school should be giving out grades at all is immaterial, but the fact that they have scores in school forces/encourages participation in the general masses.

@kelbear:
For things like Rock Band or Guitar Hero, I understand people wanting to play them. Not everyone can play an instrument and playing a guitar versus a Guitar Hero controller aren't the same thing at all, but doing these dance moves with a scoring system tracking you or without being tracked at all seems like it wouldn't be very different to me.  You're right though, not everyone gets the same thing out of a game and DDR is a good example that I forgot about (and as a game I thought it was equally weird).

@Hockeymask27:
That's an awesome idea.  I bet that game will exist.

If nothing else, a game like this is a good way to build confidence if you have never been very good at dancing. Whether it will make you better remains to be seen. It will also probably be hella fun game to play while drunk with a few friends.
