The main thing I remember about Blur was that it was the first game that I ever participated in the "Beta" of, when Giant Bomb gave out some codes during the WM Happy Hour. I don't have an solid information to back it up, but I feel like it was one of the very first games to spark the trend of the term Beta being used as a term for what was essentially a pre release demo.
Did Brad really just say that the perma death difficulty mode in Doom was "roguelike"? It's official that term has lost all meaning.
I have a confession to make. I've never known what the term "roguelike" has meant. I've read the Wikipedia entry and I still don't get it. So if your game has permanent death, 80's style graphics and procedurally generated levels it's known as a Roguelike?
Generally the core tenants are
Perma Death
Randomly generated world
Randomized loot/abilities
High degree of difficulty
Doom has 2/4 of those I guess, but the randomization is the biggest thing, which Doom definitely does not have.
