Well, you kinda need Xbox Live to get online to play with people, as well as a few other features. Most of that stuff is free on PSN. I have both a PS3 and 360 but I only pay for Xbox Live because it's necessary to play online. I don't feel as though PSN+ is giving me anything that I really need.

I stopped my Gold account for a while but when they were offering me 3 months at 50% off, I decided to go for it. The thing that they do though is that when you take advantage of those specials, they do not allow you to turn of automatic renewal as part of the deal. So in my case it would have renewed to the regular 3 months at full price, but I decided to add a full year at regular price. Once that goes into effect i should be able to turn off the auto renew.

I miss that game. It was by far the best PS2 launch title.

That's too bad about the time it'll take. I'm on the lucky end with their service. The two times I had to return it (1 E74 error, 1 three red lights)  it took less than a week. They didn't repair it in my case, they sent me a refurbished 360 instead. My three year warranty is up in a month though so it it dies this time, a new model will be purchased.
Good luck. Hopefully you get it back soon.

The remote is more like a regular TV remote than a Dual Shock 3 controller. There's no on/off switch. Sometimes I wish there was one because it automatically turns on the PS3 as soon as any button is pressed. Not a good thing when there's a toddler running around the house that loves playing with remote controls.

I guess it's helpful for people that don't have a credit card.

Fear of a broken hard drive is what made me move my Mass Effect 2 save to a USB drive. I'm so glad they added that. Those memory cards were ridiculously overpriced.
