After reading Blood Meridian and picturing the absolutely brutal things that went down in that book, if this game has just a fraction of that being a good guy is going to be tough in this game.

Thank you for that.

I figured out the Limited Edition achievement at 11:58 and missed it by seconds. Damn. I was supposed to be asleep hours ago. Now I have to sleep walk through another Friday at work.

Here's the thing. I like that nobody died in my playthrough. All of the work I did leading up to that point was to ensure that everyone survived the mission.  I'd have a hell of a tough time playing through the game again if a decision I made 20 hours earlier led to someone dying at the end.

I think, if they had made the loyalty status a little more subtle, it would have changed everything. The original Mass Effect effectively had loyalty side missions too, but it didn't play them up as key to the end game. If they had played the loyalty down a bit in the lead up to the game's release, more players would have had people die as a result of not interacting with crew members and not getting to know about their missions at all.

I don't think you can play up the importance of squad loyalty to the mission and then kill off a character regardless of the actions taken by the player.  Choosing between two or more teammates to die is probably the best solution if you want to kill off a character in the script without having it seem like you're taking control away from the player.  And they did that in the first game.

I've seen a lot of games and genres move away from the PC over the years and it finally prompted me to buy my first console since my Sega Genesis. I've had my PS3 for a month and I still don't have a game for it, although God of War 3 and Red Dead Redemption will probably change that.  Try as I might, I'm just not as interested in console gaming as I am in PC gaming.   As long as they still make FPS and Mass Effect style RPGs for the PC, I will likely never play one, even the exclusive ones, on a console.

I don't feel like I've missed out by not having a console all these years and looking forward, I feel better about PC gaming now than I did just a year ago.  It's good that some of the best developers out there such as Blizzard, Bioware, DICE, and Valve are serious about PC gaming .

My ps3 is currently only a blu ray player and demo machine.   And it's been a few year since I've played a sports game since they became crappy and were discontinued on the PC so I may get a few of those against my better judgment.

Firefly. I honestly only enjoy 3 works of Sci-Fi. Firefly/Serenity, Mass Effect (I'm very new to the series only played the first over the Holidays), and the JJ Abrams Star Trek movie.  I know I'm missing out on some great stuff though.

I was deeply relieved that I managed to save everyone including the peripheral crew. I got lucky that I went straight for the relay after the Collector attack because I didn't know that had bearing. Apparently even picking one of the dialogue choices and taking too long to do the final boss fight will get someone killed.

My major concern is how are established clans and communities going to play together.  I don't know much about how clan gaming works on a console or with matchmaking.  That's because dedicated servers are the better option, but now that there is no option how does it work?

Dedicated servers are the reason why I'm part of a gaming community in the first place.  I played the original COD on the same server with the same people for months and the majority of us ended up as admins for the cable company running the servers.  The only way to stick together would be to host private matches which would mean not allowing potential new members to drop in and see if our server is the right fit for them.  Or we'd have to leave it open and hope that our members can all get in.  We have 3 servers set up for the game and were making plans on what mods to run for a particular server.  I guess we shouldn't have assumed but I figured it was a safe assumption to make that there would be dedicated servers.
Matchmaking based on rank is for people focused on stats and people afraid of getting killed too much by better players. But hell, we've all had our asses handed to us by better players.
