That's pretty much what I was going to say before I read through the comments.

Mass Effect and GTA IV : Ballad of Gay Tony say hi, two of the biggest franchises to date! And to my knowledge gay people like shooting dudes in COD as much as any staight man!

people make video games to make money and I suppose the "straight" male is the dominant demographic to make money from though i doubt they are taking people's sexuality into account when they make games.

More of them, more Moneys.

I see this as a representational issue. There are incredibly few games with gay characters, let alone gay main characters. Even if we were going for statistical proportionality (one gay character for every gay person in the world and one straight character for every straight person) we'd be way, way out of line.

Games are empowering especially when we can relate to the characters we are playing as, or at least the characters we interact with. Bioware and Bethesda and Atlus are some of the few exceptions. Even rarer is a non-created character RPG with a gay main character--like a gay Nathan Drake or a gay Marcus Phoenix.

This may be the next frontier, but games are just as bad with having meaningful characters of color, let alone characters who identify as female.

Yeah I'm going to have to say money too. Development costs on games are pretty high so they need to at least make that money back.

Maybe there'll be some more indie games that will be more geared towards the LGBT community. An LGBT classic rpg would be pretty great.

I agree shooters, sports games, and any game that doesn't have much of a love story isn't really geared towards either the straight or gay community but ones with story could swing either way(see what I did there eh? eh?)

You never see a character coming out to their parent, dealing with gender identity, meeting their first gay partner, or learning about polyamory. The image of a dude going down on another dude isn't really anywhere in gaming but we get the heterosexual version in the first few minutes of duke nukem.

I'm not gay myself so maybe I'm off base but I have some gay/bi/trans friends and have gone to some LGBT events, so that's where I get my viewpoint from.

But maybe this point is really moot since game story is still in its infancy in regards to sex and love. Maybe we'll start seeing LGBT love stories/stories in the future once the heterosexual versions get more mature or generally better.

it's one of the few morals that gaming has...might as well try and appeal to the audiences into incest and polygamy while we're at it.
