Finally Playing

Hello again Giantbomb, I finally got my hands on some of the great games on the PS3 that I missed out on.  I recently switched to PS3 after my Xbox 360 died, so I didn't have a chance to play some of the great older games that the console has to offer.  Luckily one of my friends has a wide selection of games for me to borrow, so I finally got to play them

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

I wanted to play this game for a long time, and it didn't fail to amaze me.  Having not played the rest of the series, a lot of the story was very confusing for me, but the game did a great job explaining what was going on.  Some parts are still pretty confusing for me, but they mostly are related to the other games.  Aside from confusing storyline details, the game was fantastic.  I really enjoyed the gameplay, and that I could choose between stealth and assault.  Some of the short segments were very innovative and fun.  The cutscenes, while a bit too long, were entertaining and, at times, very emotional.  My personal favorite is the one near the end of the game where
Snake goes through the microwave tunnel.

Overall a very fun game that I really enjoyed playing

Dead Space

I haven't beaten this game yet, so please don't spoil anything for me.  This game is creepy and demented and sick, and I'm loving every minute of it.  It is easily one of the scariest games I've ever played.  At first I thought "this isn't that scary", probably because I was on easy mode, but at one point one of the small creatures with the tentacles jumped out of the window right next to me, and that scared the hell out of me.  After i beat it on easy, I'm probably going to do another playthrough on Hard, because that'll make the creatures that pop up that much more scary.

Demon's Souls

This game is hard.  Really hard.  But for some reason, i can't help but love it.  Usually when I die in a game, I rage (especially in Modern Warfare 2), but in Demon's Souls instead of anger I feel like I've learned something.  This game is heavy on punishment as well.  When you die (which happens very often), you lose ALL of the souls you collected.  There is no safe or anything in the hub area, so you either have to spend your souls or carry them with you.  It makes me really nervous when I'm carrying a pocketful of souls because I barely didn't have enough to spend on a level up.

Every time I die in this game, I learned how NOT to do something.  Like how I shouldnt try to block against the black skeleton with red eyes, or how I shouldn't jump off the small cliff when I'm fighting Astraea because the pit is filled with plague babies, or how no matter how hard I try, I can't kill the False Idol until I do something else first.
This game is probably one of the most difficult  and greatest games I have ever played

1st Blog - Buying a DS

Hey Giantbomb, I'm Jake, but you can call me Biohazard if you want.  Anyway, I got payed quite a bit from a temporary part time job I had recently, and I'm going to use the extra money to buy a DS Lite.

I used to have a DS.  Three actually.  Not very durable machines.  I had the original fat DS, but it got stolen.  After that I bought a DS Lite, but the hinge and three buttons stopped working, so I replaced it with another DS lite.  I somehow lost that one (no idea how though).  It's been over a year since Ive played a DS, but there's a few games that I really want to play.

But first, here's why I'm not getting a DSi (feel free to prove me wrong though).  I've never played one, but here's what I've heard:
1- The battery life is hours shorter
2- GBA Games > DSiWare
3- Camera sucks

4- It costs too much more to be worth it.

Anyway, here's some of the games I'm getting, but it would be great if you could tell me your reccomendations.
1- Animal Crossing: Wild World - Definitely not a game for everyone.  I've played the hell out of this and I loved it.  Something about it is just so entertaining.
2- Pokemon Heartgold - My friend is actually giving me this one.  He got a little too hyped about it and ended up preordering both versions of the game.  He likes SoulSilver more, so he's giving me the other one.  Not sure how I feel about the Pokewalker.  Probably not something I should bring into my high school.
3- Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story - I've played both Superstar Saga and Partners in Time, as well as all of the Paper Mario series, so I know that the developers know how to make a good mario RPG.  I loved Partners in Time, and the helpful Quick Look here on Giantbomb only reassured me.

I would also get The World Ends With You, but I way overplayed that game, loved the story and all, but after you beat a game like that, even with all of the interesting bonus content after the ending (i.e. secret reports), there's really no reason to get it again.

Also, a side note about handheld systems,
Not to start a console war or anything, but I decided a long time ago not to get another PSP.  I had one, but I never really used it.  Some of the games for it were really good, like Crisis Core, but the thing is, there were so few games, and I really do not like playing shooters on handhelds.  IMO, shooters belong on either consoles or PC, but not on handhelds.  It just doesn't seem to work right.
I ended up giving my PSP to my friend.  He's having lots of fun with DoA: Paradise (lol).

Anyway, thanks for reading my first blog, and please post any other good games I should get.
