GOTY 2012

This list is based on the games that I actually got to play this year.

List items

  • The most fun I've had playing any videogame this year. It says something about gameplay that rises above terrible protagonists and a bad as well as borderline racist plot. Tell me another game that came out this year where I can hunt Bears with a rocket launcher.

  • Welcome back adventure games, it's nice to see you again. I haven't been this emotionally invested in vidjya game characters since well ever. A fantastic story and the episodic nature had me anticipating every single episode.

  • The best stealth game I have EVER played! And I love stealth games. Also one of the few games that I was driven to 100%. I still could go back and beef up those scores a little.

  • For me Mass Effect 3 ended up being about the journey not the destination. The lows sucked but the highs were some of the best moments in one of my favorite series. My Shepard's journey is over and while I may not have been jazzed by where he ended up, at least it ended.

  • Killer soundtrack, a break neck pace, a slick 80's vibe, and a plot that seemed like a mix between Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer mixed with Drive make for one awesome experience.

  • An old school RPG that is fun to play and just as punishing. I haven't tried the grid paper mode yet but I'm glad it's there.

  • More Borderlands but with a more refined experience than the first. Also it's fun to play solo now so I can have fun and not worry about how all my friends have characters they have sunk way more time in than me.

  • The story was okay even though Desmond's ending was dogshit. I come here for the historical tourism and ACIII allows me to run around an interesting period in history. The homestead missions and the ship combat are pretty cool too. But man, fuck chase scenes...

  • A good open world RPG. Shame about 38 Studios though..
