There was some good competition in here. Pretty stoked to know that this might be something left open, because I have a few other ideas that might take a little bit longer.
I was just tooling around in Photoshop, trying to figure out how legible my submission would be, if actually used on an iphone (or in itunes). Ended up making this:
The podcast app has blurry text, so I might take a second pass at the mockup. But it all looks super crisp on my phone, so I'm not too worried about that. In general, just gives a decent idea of how it all might look.
Here's a link to my template, if you're interested in making your own:
@perryvandell: Yeah, coke zero, pepsi max, Dr Pepper 10 are all geared towards men in their advertisements. Probably because diet soda was originally marketed towards ladies.
Playing around with a few variants. I kind of felt mine needed a little more to the background. EDIT: Can someone tell me how well the vinyl ridges show up? I have two monitors, and it looks wildly different in each one.
Also, my official entry is whichever one Ryan wants it to be.
@b0nd07: so my one suggestion would be to slightly fudge the focus on hair-based silhouettes, and give Jeff, Brad, and Patrick a jawline. Doesn't have to be a thick outline, just some kind of distinguishing line-work to give their heads more definition. Also, Patrick seems to have the neck of a linebacker. Or maybe a tiny head. (Honestly, it may already be perfectly to scale. I haven't checked.)
Edit: Also, for people asking about deadlines, obviously it's at Ryan's whims, but I'd say probably sometime Monday or Tuesday? Whenever he has to put the art in the next podcast file.
Also, has anyone contacted the 'Persona 4 art guy' to see if he's cool with someone else winning a contest using his art?
@millerwakka: Like this one a lot. The black behind the tears looks kind of weird, but if it's for iTunes, will likely blend in better in the backdrop.
For the bomb, I'd suggest using a slightly lighter black/grey, so that texture can come through on it. Also, maybe add a stroke around the edges of the text? They're the only thing in the image without an outline, so it stands out.
I mean, no, don't change anything. Let me win, damnit.
