DEVELOPER DIARY: Social Connect Code

Hey guys -- I've been a little quiet the past week or two - but that's cause we've all been so damn busy fixing bugs and building new stuff for you dudes.
By now - you should have all pretty much seen Dave's new profile and site mocks (awesome stuff - if you haven't checked them out, you can see the mocks at:

And I've been working with him to get our signup/sign on code organized so we can start to make it better, more seamless. A big part of that, is building the functionality to allow you dudes to sync your GiantBomb account to your Facebook account or your OpenSocial account -- so that we can share data back and forth between all of those accounts. Anyway, its been a bigger project and I'm currently finishing up the Facebook Connect stuff and moving on to integrating all of it into your profiles......
The game plan, and this isn't definite - is to merge my code branch into Dave's redesign branch and work together to get everything pushed out sometime in February..... again, we're still trying figure out our timelines on all this - but I just thought you dudes would be interested.

DEVELOPER DIARY: New Profile/Login/SignUp Code

Hey dudes, just a quick little update from the code dungeon.
I've been working on consolidating a whole bunch of our profile / login / registration code. Initially, we had all of this code living in separate repositories across all of our sites. We now have all of it (well mostly all of it) living in one repository at a core level. This should greatly enable our ability to manage/update this code (new project hint hint) as well as run tests against it.
So the changes we pushed out shouldn't really affect you guys too much (there's no new 'features' to speak of) - I just wanted to give you dudes a heads up as to what I've been up to the past few days. If you see any bugs with login or sign up (or anything w/ the profiles for that matter), please let me know - thanks guys :)
DEVELOPER DIARY: Small Forum Feature

Hey duders.... here's a quick friday diary for you guys. Just wanted to make you all aware, that we recently launched a nice little feature in the boards that allows you to associate a new topic to a specific wiki page on the site - instead of just attaching a new topic to a basic forum.
To do this, click the 'Specific Page' link (next to the board drop down) and use the auto-completer to search for the page you wish to attach your new topic to. Quick note, the form will allow you to add more than one item - but we take the last item you add and attach your board to that ;)
Here's a quick screenshot of the feature.
I'm currently working on some better signup/registration functionality -- as well as a consolidation and cleanup of our registration code in general..... Prolly won't really affect you dudes too much as you're already registered, but it will help GB going forward and it will make things a whole lot easier when we start updating our profile code :)

Developer Diary: Polls Are Now Live In The Forums.

If you've been on the site (on the boards more specifically) this afternoon, you may have noticed that we recently launched Forum Polls for you guys.
Hopefully, this should be a fun way to create discussion / debate around some interesting topics in the world of videogames - (and of course, finally settle the timeless cake vs. pie argument)....
Use it, enjoy it! Big ups to Dave for some slick styling and UI enhancements late this afternoon :)
DEVELOPER DIARY: Polls!

Hey guys,
So yesterday I alluded to the fact that we were going to be launching a new polls feature for you guys. Basically, this will allow you to create polls and embed them within a topic when you go to create a new topic on the boards. It'll basically just take the first post in the topic and turn that into your poll question with your answers (pictured below).
From there, other users will be able to respond to your poll as well as comment on it in the topic itself. This should be a nice little feature for you guys :)

Yo guys -- its been a few weeks, I know..... but its the start of a new year, everybody's back after a little break and we're ready to hit the site - hard. We're all getting back into the groove - catching up on emails, PMs, etc.... but I thought I'd drop you dudes a little line to let you know what I'm working on right now.
Currently fixing a few outstanding bugs (stuff that you guys have been pointing out - and stuff that's just been bugging me) -- but I'm moving on to a new poll tool to allow you guys to create polls and embed them w/in forum posts. Its going well now, but I may run into a speedbump or two before we get this out the door..... as always, we'll keep you dudes in the loop and let you know when it goes live.
Other than that, hope everybody is doing well and is excited for a great new year here at GiantBomb!!
We're Back!

What up duders -- i know its been a long long time, but i just wanted to give everyone a quick shout to let you all know that snide and i are back from our trip and we're ready to rock n' roll!
I'm going through my PM inbox right now and getting back to some dudes - then we'll spend the afternoon making plans for the next few weeks.... but its good to be home and its GREAT to be back on the site full time :)

Hello From Australia!

hey guys -
been a little bit since the last note - so here's a quick rundown of what we've been up to the past few days. (hint: drinking)
so snide and i left melbourne about a week ago and headed all the way to the top of oz to this city called cairns... snorkle dorkled the great barrier reef one day, went white water rafting the next day (great pics) and met some super fun english guys/girls who we've been travelling down the coast w/.
pretty much everyone travelling is either heading up or down the coast and everyone kinda hits the same places so we've been running into/travelling with a really fun crew the last few spots.
so -- we just left this really fun hostel on maggie island and we just landed here @ the whitsunday islands (google it - it looks amazing) --- so we're gonna take a boat out for a few days and cruise around the islands for a bit before we head down to fraser island which is supposed to be fun -- basically, you get a crew, rent a 4x4 and they just give you an itenerary of things to go check out - then you head out and you camp along different spots around the island and eventually get back on day 3.
then we're off to brisbane, byron bay and possibly surfer's paradise before flying to sydney for the new year.
anyway, we're having good times out here and i hope you duders are too --- be back on on a more regular basis in a few short weeks :)

Hey dudes -- just wanted to drop a quick post to let you all know that snide and i are out in australia right now. Internets are spotty at best out here - but we'll be checking in periodically to keep up w/ everything..... we just won't be as responsive as we normally are.
