A very close second to the Best Game Ever Made. A fantastic mix of unique characters, sharp humor, and unparalleled freedom of movement for the genre even by today's standards made for an unforgettable experience.

An incredible action-adventure infused with bold PA humor, is both an incredible Penny Arcade fan-service and a unique twist on the old Quest-RPG formula.

So far the only game in existence, which requires you to be an expert at Excel, and be in 24/7 cell-phone reach with your guild-mates. For those reasons EVE is the only MMO I'm going to include in this list.

Aside from the very fun and challenging gameplay, this is one of the very few games capable of conversing a very compelling story without as much as having a lead character or even saying a single word.

While the original Su-27 Flanker series were truly phenomenal, LockOn truly stepped it up a notch with multiple flyable aircraft, and visual and technical realism - making it the King of Combat Flight Sims ...'nuff said.

Easily the first FPS to have a great story, compelling characters, incredibly funny, and all while still managing to be a great shooter.

The game which got Valve where it is today. It also brought us Counter-Strike - which in turn opened the flood-gates for "Call of Duties" and "Battlefields".

Morrowind > Oblivion - by a *long shot*, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You know how Oblivion has that awesome big city in the middle? Ya well, Morrowind had five of those. You could also build yourself a house in Morrowind ... 'nuff said.

Showed us just how awesome a fusion of Open-world Adventure and Post-Apocalyptic setting can be!

Mostly due to the 'Action Quake 2' mod, which easily holds the title of being the first "realistic shooter". Even the original Counter Strike BETA 1.0 doesn't pre-date AQ2, and Call of Duty can just GTFO.

Quite easily the first RTS game with true 3D graphics. But if that wasn't enough of a break-through, TA was also one of the first (and very few) RTS games which broke free of the established 'C&C mold' and introduced actual strategy and tactics to the tank-rush ridden world of RTS.

The level of spontaneous creativity was unparalleled.

While technically not the first "true 3D" FPS, this was in fact the first *fun* 3D shooter, and not just an over-glorified tech-demo ...(looking at you, id Software)

Easily the best of the NFS series - upto and including NFS:Shift

While Rome:TW was an epic in it's own right, the gameplay advantage goes to Medieval 2 for it's superior use of agents, selection of units, diplomacy options, levels of city management, and more competitive combat.
