I got a deal on the Xbox game pass a few weeks ago so will pick this up on release - Perfect because, like many others, I'm not sure about dropping $60 on what might be great for a week or two but nothing beyond that.
@dave_tacitus: I welcome any and all recommendations on decent Dualshock 3 alternatives, so I'll put the Gioteck VX2 on the list on controllers to try. I guess the one good thing about third party controllers is I can probably get three different ones to test out for what a Dualshock 3 used to go for.
They're the only ones I've tried which didn't have horrendous deadzones in the analogue sticks. From memory, the wireless pad cost me ten quid and the wired was a couple of pounds cheaper.
@gundamguru: Sadly, I've had no luck finding a trusted source for official Dualshock 3 replacements. I've started contemplating trying third party options, if only to clear out of backlog of PS3 titles. Not ideal, but when you don't have any other options... (I have a similar complaint with Microsoft discontinuing the Xbox 360 controller. Of course, at least they're making efforts to get those older games playable on the new system, thereby circumventing the need for the old controller. Though, damn, that 360 controller really was perfection and I don't know what I'll do on PC when I need to find a replacement.)
I bought a couple of Gioteck VX2 pads, one wired one wireless, after I became a bit paranoid about my two DS3's (one decent, one nearly new) longevity. They were dirt cheap and I'm pretty impressed - Dead zones, which have put me off countless 3rd party pads in the past, were fine and they've got rumble, but no Sixaxis.
Been using a G602 for about 3 years. It's a really great mouse and they have excellent customer support. I fully recommend it.
Same.
The two mice I use daily are the 602 and a Logitech G403. Of the two I slightly prefer the 403 but if you're after extra buttons, the 602 is my choice. Batteries last for ages, too, unlike the 403's.
I've got the game on Director's Cut on Steam, PS3 and the original for 360/One and despite the D/C's obvious improvements, last time I played through the game I did it on the One. It doesn't crash frequently like I find on PC and the framerate isn't total garbage 100% of the time like on PS3.
@dave_tacitus: Ah. I've got a 980ti, so I'm holding off - It still blitzes everything at 1080p but I'm heading towards 4k.
In your case I'd say go for the best CPU you can afford as it should be the cornerstone of your PC for a long time. Something like a 1060 or even 1050ti will see you through and can be upgraded whenever GPU prices even themselves out.
