whoa, wait up, september 27th, i'm sure i blogged sooner than that.... ah well. so be it. here's another blog.

not much has changed in my daily routine. i haven't stopped procrastinating and as a matter of fact i still am, but it's all good because i am not tired whatsoever at this point and am in fact making quite steady progress. aside from the fact that i'm writing this blog. i guess i have to go prep for an essay after i'm done writing this, but i'm usually rather excellent with essays so it shouldn't take too long, and then i'll be able to get some precious sleep.

i'd like to talk about something rather random today but i guess it serves as "spreading the word" so i guess i will do so. i'm going to talk about this website. this link redirects to a website about the National Novel Writing Month, which is the month of November, and although this is the first i've heard of it, apparently it's a yearly event. basically, the challenge is to write a novel in exactly one month's time, beginning with November 1, and ending at midnight, November 30. there are no limits and no rules, although it has to be 175 pages/50,000 words. it sounds like quite an undertaking but i pride myself on being an enthusiastic writer when i actually apply myself and correctly put my mind to things, so i will be taking part in this event and i will actually finish a fully-fledged novel for the first time in my life.

creatively i am going to spend the next month preparing for this fairly large undertaking. i'm not going to get the entire thing ironed out, obviously, as that would defeat the purpose of the National Novel Writing Month. the core of the event is spontaneity. the words are supposed to flow from your mind and onto your computer screen via your hands at random, and if they are incoherent and show no cohesion whatsoever, then so be it, it's all part of the fun. the goal is to get it all down. 50,000 words. you can't perfect 50,000 words in one month's time unless you are totally unemployed, have no other life obligations, have a pre-demonstrated talent in creative writing, and an overly self-critical and analytical mind. i have just one of those things - the first one - but i do have school to keep up with.

so in summary i am going to be taking the plunge and writing a novel, which is VERY EXCITING GUISE. it's something i've always wanted to do and it's something i have been considering as a possible career path in the future. how will i go about doing this? well, i'm not sure. at the tender age of 15 i highly doubt that Tolkien himself knew how to get his work out there, unless i'm sadly mistaken (as admittedly i know nothing about Tolkien despite the fact that he published some of my favorite literature of all time) although here's some flawed logic - i guess there are so many shit books out there that i could possibly find my way into the ranks of these mediocre authors who write forgettable, repugnant novels and publish my work and see it on the shelves of Borders or Barnes & Noble or WHSmith and be like "i wrote that." that'd be such a sense of accomplishment. it's what keeps me going.

so yeah. there's the month of november for me. luckily, my cross country season will finish at either the culmination of October or the very beginnings of November, so i'll have a little more free time to devote to more creative and less athletic pastimes. which should be an awesome change of pace. (hah. pace. see what i did there?)

(oh, and gaming. duh. i played Civilization IV today for ONE WHOLE HOUR. i promise i'll start playing FFVII soon.)
(and music. i love you Sigur Rós.)

takk
