so today's blog will be commenting on the songs from the Guitar Hero: World Tour setlist that I actually give a shit about.

At The Drive-In: "One Armed Scissor"
oh YES. absolutely fantastic song. very nice post-hardcore. i didn't expect them to end up on GH. no doubt a lot of elitists will be pissed off about this though - many people take pride in the fact that they're a fan of ATDI, since they're a fairly unknown band and some of their members went on to form The Mars Volta, which many people overlook.

Coldplay: "Shiver"
i think it's hilarious that Coldplay are on GH, but whatever, i actually really like this song. one of the better early coldplay songs for sure.

Filter: "Hey Man, Nice Shot"
i love this song, however derivative and unoriginal it may be. unfortunately the rest of Filter's discography is rather trite.

Foo Fighters: "Everlong"
eh. i have a huge amount of resentment for everything the Foo Fighters stand for these days, but i cannot deny the songwriting prowess that Grohl clearly poured into this song. undeniably their best song.

Jimmy Eat World: "The Middle"

i have to say, this song is CATCHY.

Lost Prophets: "Rooftops (A Liberation Broadcast)"
another guilty pleasure :/

Mars Volta: "L'Via L'Viaquez"
OH WOW.
wait a fucking second here.
this song is EPIC. i can't even believe my eyes.
this song is 12 minutes and 22 seconds. how are the makers of GH going to pull this off? if they shorten it, that would just be... WRONG.
Roulette Dares would have been better, though.

Michael Jackson: "Beat It"

classic. i don't care what anyone says. i don't like Eddie but i do dig the MJ of old.

Muse: "Assassin"
chugga chugga chugga
this song owns.

Nirvana: "About a Girl (Unplugged)"
no doubt Cobain would hate the inclusion of this soulful performance, and i too am quite divided, but... it's Nirvana. Cobain is one of my heroes. and i'm glad a rather underrated Nirvana song got included rather than LOL SMELLZ LIEK TEEN SPIRIT GUYZ

Paramore: "Misery Business"
i'm still wondering why i like this band so much.

Smashing Pumpkins: "Today"
back in the day, the Pumpkins were actually good.

the rest of the songs are either "meh" or "shit", or i haven't heard them. let's go over some of the worst inclusions, for me anyway.

THESE SONGS SHOULD NOT BE HERE.

...

Beastie Boys: "No Sleep Till Brooklyn"
i do not like the Beastie Boys one bit, unless it's Intergalactic. that song wins simply because it has robots.

blink-182: "Dammit"

ok so i won't deny that this guitar riff has a lot of significance to me, at least from years gone by, but this song is just straight up embarrassing to listen to these days.

Bullet For My Valentine: "Scream Aim Fire"
LOL. please. no. i am going to play this song ONCE and that is IT. FUCK this band.

Creedence Clearwater Revival: "Up Around the Bend"
this band does not belong on any GH game.

The Enemy: "Aggro"
-_- why

Linkin Park: "What I've Done"

that's right gearhead this song sucks.

Modest Mouse: "Float On"
this song was featured on a Kidz Bop compilation and thus remains rather lulzy for me. i think the song is massively overrated and so is the band.

Oasis: "Some Might Say"
fuck oasis. the fact that blur aren't on this game speaks volumes about the ignorance of popular culture. and they also picked one of the worst Oasis songs i've ever fucking heard. go figure. playing this ONCE.

Pat Benatar: "Heartbreaker"
-_- please no

Sublime: "Santeria"
FUCK THIS BAND

Tokio Hotel: "Monsoon"
LOL. no. please. no. my ears.

Tool: "Parabola"
Tool: "Schism"
Tool: "Vicarious"

ok so Tool are actually a pretty good band, but do we REALLY need three songs by them? give me three Between The Buried and Me songs if you're going to go all progressive on my ass, or add two more Volta songs. wow. seriously.

not a bad setlist, all in all, despite some really bad songs. rock band 2 is still going to kick this game's ass.

oh, and for a giggle, here's the 5 songs this game SHOULD have.

The Fall of Troy: "Sledgehammer"
absolutely insane guitar work and the sickest breakdown ever recorded featured at the end. go fucking figure.

The Dillinger Escape Plan, "Sunshine the Werewolf"
this probably would never feature in any Guitar Hero game because it is NOT radio-friendly music in any way, shape, or form. it'd still be fucking sweet.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of the Fucking DEAD, "Totally Natural"
insanity, and the noise attack at the end is brilliant.

Between The Buried and Me, "Selkies: The Endless Obsession"
BEST GUITAR SOLO EVER.
NO CONTEST.

Sunn O))), "It Took The Night To Believe"
it'd be hilarious
watch this to see why.
