@andorski: They will get a better response if they show quality games at E3 and get their story straight. But I wouldn't put that much faith in Microsoft's marketing.
I completely disagree. Marketing is what solely made the 360 more popular than the PS3 this generation. People think games like CoD and Elder Scrolls are Xbox games despite being on PC and PS3. Even games that were joint marketed by Sony and the third party publisher like Assassin's Creed and Battlefield sold more on the 360. The amount of exclusives on the 360 has been dismal the past few years, but there has been no real backlash concerning it. I'm willing to bet if it was MS who had a good stable of first party developers making exclusive games and Sony being the one without a steady flow of exclusive releases there would be a narrative among gamers about it.
I feel that the reason the 360 became the lead console in the US was the fact that it released a year before the PS3. Granted that was probably a marketing call, which was a smart one on their part. I don't think it's unfair to say that most people just pick a horse and go with it as far as consoles are concerned, MS was just the first horse available. In the universe where Sony had launched first, it would probably have been the same story for them.
I would say there was a backlash concerning the lack of exclusives on the 360. The amount of exclusive titles on the PS3 helped it come back from a bad launch to be neck and neck with the 360 in worldwide sales. There doesn't have to be a narrative for there to be backlash.
It's interesting how it seems the tables have turned this coming generation. When the 360 was introduced Microsoft had something to prove and Sony was full of hubris after coming off of the success of the PS2 and PS and now it appears to be the opposite. I get the feeling that Microsoft is somewhat resting on its laurels. I hope this isn't the case and I'm excited to see what both companies have to show at E3. A healthy race just means better games for everyone, right?

I doubt that Sony blew their load, it would be pretty shortsighted of them to not have any new IP to bring to E3. I bet they'll have something to throw at Microsoft's 15 original titles.
That being said I would still buy a PS4 at launch. I'll probably get an xbox one at some point in its life cycle especially if it has some nice exclusives. As of right now though it doesn't seem like a console that has my interests in mind. I don't have cable so I would be paying for several features that I would never use.
